Hello Geekzoners,

I recently bought a camera on valuebasket.co.nz as they turned up first in the google search and offered lowest price. They advertised on their website  (.co.nz) to deliver from Auckland address (Shortland St), promised a shipping within 3 days and offered 14 day money back guarantee. 

However only after giving my credit card details did I realize they serve orders from Hong Kong :-( I was duped by their .co.nz address
I bought the same camera from Noel Leeming as valuebasket did not deliver on time for my Queenstown trip.

I have been following up with them for the last 8 weeks and every time I hear the same song: "Someone in the relevant department is looking at my refund."

I have their camera with me. I did not even tear the package. I applied for refund but they keep saying the same rubbish. The people who attend their advertised Auckland phone number says only one thing: Fill the Contact Us form on their website. apparently that phone number is setup to route the call to Hong Kong.

I have no hope that they are going to refund. I feel cheated and would like to report relevant Government Authority. I already filed a complaint with Commerce Commission but I wonder what other things I can do. 

I will be appreciative of your ideas to help me deal with them and get my refund. Thank you very much. 

 

Do I need to say, stay away from them?

.co.nz does not mean a site / business is operated out of New Zealand

Have you asked your credit card company to reverse the charge? if not look into it immediately there's usually a time limit for how far back you can request a refund from your Credit Card provider directly.

It's a tricky situation as the OPs post reads like they actually delivered the goods... to get them to take them back is not going to be easy and ultimately they would not be obliged to do so, even under NZ law.

The sooner they stop overseas companies registering .nz domain names, the better like they do in Australia, but I don't think they will do that. At least you know if you visit a .com.au, that you are very likely dealing with an Oz company.

Thanks all for your inputs.

Credit Card company advised that I will have to settle this with the merchant so that's hopeless.

I think I will have to resell the camera on Trade Me.

Valuebasket.com ( the parent) actually have a NZ resigistered subsiduary, their NZ Business Number is 9429030236554

 

Take them to the disputes tribunal for the money you paid, saying that they did not honour their money back guarantee

they list an accountant as the address for service, so use that

BLACKMORE VIRTUE & OWENS, 18 Broadway, Newmarket, Auckland, 1023 , New Zealand

I suspect that this will spur them into action...

Value basket did not come close to fulfilling the sale contract if they told you dispatch would occur from AK. Simple as that.

Return the goods with signature to their provided shortland st address and contact your credit card company for a chargeback. Option (b) just contact your credit card company and they will explain how to deal with it.

They seem to have removed Shortland St address from their website. They just have a 09 phone number.

They say "Typically ships in 2-4 business days and delivers in 6-9 business days". That night at 1 am I was too much excited about our upcoming Queenstown trip to do any checks on them and their claims.

I read "Typically ships in 2-4 business days and delivers in 6-9 business days" as it ships from them in 2-4 days and you will receive after that in 6-9 days so I think you might just have to resell the camera

I aways do this sort of research on places I have never heard of.

 

Because being an overseas company there is very little you can do.

 

 

 

If you paid by credit card, you could complete a fraudulent transaction form, but you may not win that in these circumstances.

So how long did it take to get here? , just on face value I think you were naive to not check on them and as you say you rushed in, having said that you have the camera so the 14 days is relevant but think you may be out of luck.

Im guessing you landed it cheaper than NL so selling is an option
