[For background I've been out of the country for 5 months now.]

From what I have gleaned while being away I am probably glad that I don't have to put up with all the misery that is occurring in New Zealand at the moment.  I'm tempted to put it down to the election campaign period, even though I understood that it was going to be played with a straight bat(?)

It seems like there might actually be a lot of good things going on in New Zealand across a wide range of aspects, but the news I've seen seems to paint quite a glum picture.  I've actually decreased the amount of news I read about home because I'm left a little saddened by the tone of it.

What is everyone's opinion about the situation?

Its awful here.

Last night one of my bluff oysters had a bit of shell in it, the new Tuatara Whittakers Chocolate Black beer isn't as chocolatey as I expected and sometimes my UFB connection slows down to 70MBps.

Maybe if you mention what it is that's supposed to be going on here? I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to.

As KiwiNZ notes, there is actually a good feel to the country at the moment.  But if you're a political party looking down the barrel of a third term in opposition, you don't accentuate the positive

Speak for yourself; I'm looking out the window at the moment and there's a huge ball of fire in the sky that looks like it's moving, if I watch closely enough. Does anyone know what it is? I'm so very frightened... Perhaps today is a good day to die.

It's not just you SaltyNZ, I can see it too! Might head to the fallout shelter, just in case.

It is all a matter of perspective....

Ask someone living in the Syria, Iraq, Israel, or the Gaza Strip, just how bad is it in New Zealand.

Please come back to follow up on this...

Given you're out of NZ, where are you getting your info from?
And as others have said, what exactly is the 'situation' here in NZ?

I just found Lift Plus Zero Sugar is back after disappearing for 2 years or more.
It costs $2.50 whereas a similar sized bottle of V is $4.00 at my local dairy, so frankly that's a positive that should count for something.

Apart from that, I don't see what's significantly different in the last 6 months.  Other thank it's winter now, but today's actually quite sunny.

Everything is great unless you live in West Auckland where someone is murdered almost every week within a 1 kilometer radius of your house.
