Hi, I need to get an Xbox One for hire quick for a competition, but video Ezy aren't picking up and civic don't have them. Does anyone know if they hire then out? Thanks

Well it depends on each individual store I believe my former (it's now closed down) local VE did but I know of others that haven't and my local United Video does.  You've asked a rather specific question but haven't stated which region or store is your local so probably need to provide this so you can get an answer better than this one.

Where are you?

Few vid shops picked up the hardware on the consoles, partially the cost, but also the uncertainty of a new format and crap lineup of games (initially). We used to be able to subsidise gaming with profits from DVD rentals, but there has been a huge decline in DVD/BD rental over the last 12 months or so, so this isn't the case anymore and keeping up with old consoles is tough, keeping up with old and new is basically impossible (for an average store)

I know I did for my shop, but it hasn't hired out much, sort of wish I hadn't bothered with it.

If you have a united video handy, they are more likely to have it, as a franchise they tend to be stronger on gaming than civic or ezy

Wouldn't being a franchise make it more likely for them to not stock the large more expensive items as they're all individually owned?

Sorry, Whangaparaoa.

No United here.

Do video stores still exist? I haven't been in one for years, and I think the local one near me has turned into a pet shop or vets

Shop now at Mighty Ape (affiliate link).

United tend to focus more on games than the others plus their stores tend to be a bit bigger than the other franchises

For now, yes, but I would expect that to change over the next 1-3 years, turnovers are diving dramatically across the board in recent times with many in "survival mode".

I would also expect to see the end of franchises, with the costs of being in a franchise now wll outweighing the benefits as stores come off contract, many will be looking for cheaper options

Your closest would most likely be Browns Bay, there's a united and a civic there. Being from out of area, they may be reluctant to hire to you though
