Emailed Groupon on 14th Sept asking why the goods purchased on 19th Aug were not delivered yet, surprisingly got a reply the same say on 14th Sept saying there was a delay and to expect delivery in the next 7 - 10 days. Still nothing showed up at my address, this is absolutely appalling and I notice loads of other people are having the same and similar problems with Groupon. I dont see how this company can and is allowed to keep operating like this? I have filed a non receipt claim with paypal and Groupon havent even responded to the claim, today is the last day for them to respond to my claim, then I get my money back.

Groupon doesn't actually have goods.  All they do is act as an intermediary; collecting money off you, clipping the ticket, and asking the actual merchant to ship your stuff.

That said, they have hideously bad customer service.

Like all daily deal sites, they're simply an intermediary. Ultimately it's not their fault if a company who advertises with them doesn't deliver on their product or service, but it does make Groupon look bad.

I just didn't realise people still use daily deal sites!

Are they even a NZ registered company? Personally I don't buy anything from these types of sites, more hassle than they are worth. Last time I purchased something from one of the NZ ones, it took more than a month to get it, even though they said it would be within 14 days.

Many of the physical products being sold on these sites are simply people selling products that they're sourcing from China and then on-shipping. Delays are caused by them not actually ordering stock until they have confirmed orders, and then having to wait until it arrives in the country. With many products you may as well just order them yourself direct from China and save yourself money - one example is 3rd party electric toothbrush heads. You can get 4 heads incl shipping to NZ for around NZ$2. Somebody I know was telling me about a daily deal site selling these a few weeks ago for around NZ$15 incl shipping and thought this was a bargain because it was cheaper than a supermarket, but for a 3rd party product it as massive margin for the NZ reseller.

If your waiting for canvas prints then you might as well kiss the money goodbye, my partner ordered some for a friends 21st and they took 4 months to arrive.....

They are a waste of time and I'm surprised they are still trading.

I had issues with one of those companys.. Either groupon or groupy cant remember which.  I ordered an armored bike jacket and a month later it still hadnt arrived, chucked them an email and they got onto the supplier straight away demanding why the goods hadnt arrived. I was impressed with the service.  The goods turned up a day or two later just to be chucked aside - total rubbish but I thought Id give it a go anyway :)

I have purchased from such sites when they were selling decent branded goods. But many have now moved into selling cheap chinese rubbish, where they would make larger margins.

Paypal refunded my money today and Groupon didn't even respond to the non-receipt claim, I would never deal with them again.  I don't usually buy from any of these sites anyway, but my gf asked me to buy this stuff from Groupon and prior to this I never knew there was so many complaints about Groupon, I should have Googled first.  My gf is chinese and theres other stuff she wants too, so i've told her to get it from china as its far cheaper, her family can easily go down to the local markets and buy it, send it over.

I've found the deal extreme to be good, and is a chinese website, delivery though can take a few weeks. Much of the stuff these daily deal websites sell on them is identical. Ebay also has a lot of chinese sellers selling some decent stuff such as tablet covers, which are a fraction of what they are sold for in NZ.

Aliexpress is the best for Chinese stuff IME. Or just go there yourself and get it shipped back.

I went to Shenzhen in June and bought a Regol spectrum analyser from the markets there, 9200 rmb and its far cheaper than dealing with the Australian agent, saved about $500. I also unpacked it and used it before comming back to nz, hence customs didn't charge duty on it.
