Is anyone aware of a house or even motel that offers weekly rates in Central or North Auckland while my family looks for a place to live? Its just the 2 of them at this stage

I expect many motels would if you had a chat with the management.

yep, calling around will be your best bet.  I imagine plenty have vacancies and will be happy to have a longer term stay.

Thanks guys. Gave that a try but all 6 of them wanted a daily rate, minimum $120 a day, flap that. Will have to keep trying.

You obviously don't know about Auckland prices.
$120/day is quite reasonable for a daily rate.

thanks for the swipe, but that was their rate per day for a month, ie $840pw

found a better one on wotif.

most big cities have relocation accommodation, clearly Auckland isnt in the big or need market just yet but I can see it happening.

Have you tried VRBO, or even TripAdvisor?

There are some places in Newmarket and the City that do weekly rates.  How picky are they?  There is a place on the end of Manukau Road (Newmarket end) that I drive past quite often and it has weekly rates.  (Note - I have never stayed there, or even been inside, so no nothing about it)

You could check Airbnb to find some accommodating people?

$120 is a bit stiff. I paid $78 NZ a night while in Sydney for two weeks in a hotel. Not a huge room, but included WiFi and breakfast right in the centre of the city wasn't bad.

I come from Sydney.
I have lived in Auckland for several years (but couldn't afford to stay).
Sydney accommodation is cheaper than Auckland (allowing for currency conversion).

If you're on a tight budget you could try a backpacker's hostel: www.bbh.co.nz/ha214/

Some of them have self contained accommodation (& it's pretty much shoulder season)

thanks guys.

did a lot of ringing around, found 50% of the motels etc understood what a weekly rate means (ie not 7xdaily rate) and the rest just had no clue. The ones that do tend to understand its good business to fill an empty room for a long term stay at a discount.

anyway i found the family a great place at a 40% discount of the daily rate which they are chuffed at.

thanks for all the tips and help.
