Does anyone know where in NZ I can buy 5-10 C90/C60 audio cassettes?

Maybe around $20-40 pack. Super high quality is not required. Almost any brand is ok.

I see they are available on fishpond but shipping is from U.S.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll aim for a bunch of identical. &just finalised that C90 is required.

Also I found this option in the last few minutes:

I would be wary of buying leaderless tapes, they have that there for a reason.

Good point...

Wikipedia: For certain applications, such as dictation, special cassettes containing leaderless tapes were made, typically with stronger material and for use in machines that had more sophisticated end-of-tape prediction.

These will not be used in a dictation machine so maybe I should be wary.

Otoh they will be recorded once and listened a couple of times only so maybe it will be ok.

I recall seeing some standard cassettes in a $2 shop a while back. If anyone knows of any appearing in central AK...

You only need to use tapes with leaders, if your player / recorder uses optical "end of tape" detection. like what is used in all VHS videotape players. If you are unsure what type of "end detection" your player uses. Just play a tape and watch what happens carefully when it reaches the end.

The leader is a thicker stronger plastic, quite important in the C90's. Had a few leaderless ones I scored off a bin at a company many years back break at the end when rewinding them.

Interested in hearing what you still need tapes for, surely it's something that could be replaced with digital recording to flash memory.

I am curious, what do you need them for?

Been so long since I've even seen a cassette, audio or video.

has the op tried the warehouse or tardme ?

there are still many users of old fashioned analogue audio tapes.

many indie record labels release new material on cassette - it's user unfriendly access means listeners are more likely to listen from start to finish instead of jumping all over the place with digital media.

law enforcement are still large tape users for interviewing.
interviews can be easily started, paused and resumed.
tapes are more secure, tampering is obvious.
the format is very portable and easy to access, there are still millions of cassette players around, no fancy computers or software needed.
it's cheap and tapes are still available.

the prison service industry is still a big tape user as it's hard to fashion a cassette tape into a weapon, unlike a cd.
sony even have a special prison walkman !

Two 65+ people who need to swap recordings for a short time. The variety of user interfaces available on cheap mp3 recorder / players is just too baffling and variant not to mention the process required to swap SD cards. Cassettes and cassette players present a familiar and consistent user interface almost exactly the same on all brands.

Edit: and cheap if you still have the equipment lying around.
