Wonder if anyone can help? I have been told that the 4gb SD card I have bought for my TomTom GO 500 is too big? How is that possible and is there any way it can be used?

I have also tried it in my camera - to save having to buy another and that cant format it? I have also tried another 4gb card with the same result. Any ideas?

It should be alright, have you tried a firmware update?

Sorry but can you explain a bit more? firmware?
If that's the hardware that's on the TomTom then I have the most up to date. The TomTom won't recognise the card even though all the data is on it.

Maybe the card as well as being high capacity, is high speed. Apparently high speed cards break some speciifcations to do so, and this can cause incompatibility with some devices...

Right, thanks. It wont work on my digital camera either. I wonder if it's because both the camera and TomTom are not in the first flush of youth!!

Hi,

Thee are two formats of SD card that I'm aware of...
Normal SD cards (max capacity 4GB)  and SDHC - Hi Capacity, I suppose (2GB and upwards) the device needs to be able to utilise the SDHC format, if not you should stay with SD(normal, unleaded-styles).

This is usually noted on the card and packaging - so if you have an older (than say, a year or two) device, you should take note.

My hx2750 has a 4GB SD card & runs happily with it - insert a SDHC (any size) and it doesn't even show it.
