I wanted some personalised plates, but spat the dummy at the $699 fee at http://www.plates.co.nz.
So I searched TradeMe, and found I H0T SS on $1 reserve, and got them for $260.

Will look great on my Red Hot 420hp SS Commodore!

Interestingly enough, the plates were not listed in the personalised plates section of TradeMe, but rather, in the Holden > Parts > Exterior section - which I think may be why I got them for $260 :-)

I know that at least a few other members have name plates, so what do you have? (Or what *would* you get?).

Another cheaper way to get them was (is?) to buy vouchers off TM or elsewhere. When I got mine, someone had brought a quantity of vouchers which the personalised plates people gave them a substantial discount for.

ELMNOP are mine :-)

I too recently looked at getting PP, not for the personalised part but more for the euro style, since I have a euro car. I too spat the dummy as the price for a PP in euro style is $800...rip of merchants.

I have "ZERO1" sitting on a shelf in my garage, should sell it.
Ihave "II  B2  II" on the car at the moment and my business partner has "11  B2  11" on his.
I got them from plates.co.nz and they were awesome to deal with, you get a discount when you buy more than one pair at a time.  Still, it's $500+ that could otherwise be spent on games :o)

Jabba, wow I had an old flat mate who had JABBA on his car.  He normally took the long board to work though.  =)

If I was to get a personalised plate it would be NUWEB, or ETRUCK / EMTRKS, hehe mainly because it would be a business expense.  =)

Anyone can have Euro style plates & they don't need to pay Personalised Plates Ltd. a cent. When it comes to those novelty style plates they would like you to believe that they have a monopoly but this is not true. There are many international sellers of novelty plates & you can quite legally purchase & use in New Zealand. The regulations here only state that the plate must be stamped aluminum & the that the lettering must be either black on white or red on white or blue on white & be a certain minimum size of the lettering etc. You are quite entitled to use a foreign plate as long as it is displaying the correct registration number of course.

I have a US plate on my car. A NZ one won't fit because I have a Jap import & the bumper is designed to take a Japanese plate. But the US plate is the same size as a Japanese one so I now have a US plate. It cost me very little & is so much better than those ones Personalised Plates sell. I've had it in my car 2 years & was only questioned about once by the police, but despite the fact he did not like it there was nothing he could do because it does not break any regulation.

Check out this: http://www.autoplates.com/catalog/custom.php?view=europlates

Jabba, I don't have those anymore - threw them away when moving to the new house...

For other folks here, I had those made in 2001 for a party we had at Unisys. Here is a picture of what Jabba is talking about (my first PT Cruiser):
