Hi all,

I'm reading nzherald via RSS feed and at a lunch break i saw this in my RSS reader:

but the link to the full article brought up "page not found" when i tried to read it.

The article is still available in Google cache though:

I'm wondering what could be the reason this article was published and then taken out?

Maybe it was incorrect and this was drawn to their attention. It wouldn't be the first time a newspaper has ben caught out copying and pasting inaccurate information from social media.

IMHO politicians families, especially kids should be out of bounds.

PS newspapers edit, the classification office censors.

I find it ironic that John Key's son is allegedly (good word that!) associated with someone who has been arrested for making a bomb.

Perhaps, all the GSCB/surveillance law changes were so he could keep an eye on his son:)

I don't see why if there's a real story, the children are over 18 (John Key's son is 20) and it's properly researched, backed up by facts, etc, etc. Perhaps this one wasn't, in which case fair enough that they pull it.

I do understand the sentiment that politicians\celebrities\etc families, in particular kids, should not be harassed or attacked by the media when there isn't a real story - prime example was the attack on Obama's kids a while back in an opinion column by some republican aid(?) - but I disagree that they are completely "out of bounds" no matter what the story is...

It was only a matter of time before NZHerald posted something like this. I wonder if they will be a little more cautious in the reporting of social media 'events' after this.

I assumed this thread would be about the NZH censoring itself by not publishing the Charlie Hebdo cover, despite a cover implying they would. Typical of this trashy rag to cave into terrorism and give up press freedom while at the same time having a go at the PM due to a third-hand connection

I find it depressing that the kids of famous people are seemingly considered fair game by the media now, purely by virtue of their parent's job. As far as I can see he wasn't accused of doing anything illegal, or even anything vaguely immoral, just being in the same photo as someone who was a bit shady. Plus, according to this link it would appear that the photo itself was a hoax, which is presumably why the story was pulled.

Even if it was true, if it wasn't for his father's job they wouldn't have cared for an instant about the alleged "transgression" - although how he was actually supposed to have transgressed, even if it was true, eludes me.

The media should stick to reporting on politicians and what they have done, or are alleged to have done, in their own right - and leave their kids alone.

I hope that the editor of the Herald will issue a fulsome personal apology to Max for this nonsense.

Hang on a minute. Key posted it and captioned it himself. Did he not? The herald was publishing in the public interest. The problem it appears no fact checking or publication of doubt.
