Hey guys,

I just heard that Apple have secured a property on Auckland's Queen Street and are going to open a store soon.

my sources are about 80% Accurate.

If the rumor is true it will be nice for customers to have a genius bar to replace iPhones in a flash.

I'll keep this thread updated with any new information.

I'm surprised they hadn't opened one sooner.

I would not necessarily buy from them as other retailers will normally offer a better deal, but they almost always offer better service in-store.

Any speculation on which building it might be in? Apple seem to have a pretty high visual standard for all their stores. I always thought they would open one in Britomart where the old Yoobee store used to be.

I've edited the title of this just for a bit of clarity.

On the topic - Queen Street seems an odd choice.  It's always been pretty dead there whenever I've visited Auckland.  Most of the Australian stores started in malls - better foot traffic and impulse buyers, I would have thought they'd initiate their NZ presence in one of the bigger malls.  Interesting to see what happens.

Awesome. The only one I have been in is in Paris at the Louvre and that was excellent.

Just another reason to move to Auckland....

Yeah this rumour was going around for a while last year. One of the places that was up for lease and has decent space is the old BNZ building - this one.

From many perspectives it would make sense - the lower end of Queen St is certainly now a luxury brands area and would be a good fit for Apple.

Auckland council has been actively courting luxury brands for the revamp in the luxury shopping hub at the foot of Queen St.  They got Prada, Gucci and courting Apple, Zara, Cartier, Tiffany & Co

Good.

Those things will make it more attractive to international visitors.

Surely if you buy and iPhone from Dick smiths and you have a hardware fault the rumoured Apple store will just tell you to take it back to the store you bought it from....

AWESOME. Finally somewhere other than Vodafone/Telecom shops to needlessly queue outside of each year for the unnecessary iterative updates that cost over $1000!

YES!
