Got one of those Typo lightboxes but they don't come with their own ac adapters. They can be powered with batteries but I am interested to know if I can use the ac adapter from my speaker dock safely (see image in link).

Doesn't look like it. One is 9v the other 5.4v.

Darn it. Thought so. Just out of curiosity. What would happen if I turned it on using the adapter?

Most likely wouldn't work. Less likely but possibly damage the adapter.

EDIT assuming polarity is correct, otherwise may damage both.

probably nothing as the voltage is too low for the device
