Hi guys!

Not quite sure if this is the right place to put this, but I didn't see any heading that really covered hosting so I thought I would put it in here. =)

Anyway, I am after some hosting/domain registration recommendations for New Zealand hosts.

For now I will just be registering a domain and pointing it at my servers back home in the UK, but will eventually buy some hosting here in New Zealand.

So who would you guys recommend? In the UK I've got a fair few domains scattered all around the place with different companies etc etc and would like to avoid that situation here in New Zealand as it causes a real head ache when something needs to be changed!

I won't be needing MS hosting, linux would be fine (with all the usualy features - PHP/MySQL/All the usual tools like phpMyAdmin, AWStats etc) - so who would you guys suggest?

Cheers

Unless you have some real specific need for very low latency connection, forget about actually physically hosting in NZ, bandwidth cost here is far too costly. Just go with a host in the west of the US, you should get 150 to 200ms ping in at least as far as LA, which is just fine.

Plenty of NZ "based" hosts run thier equipment in the US, both as full independant hosts with thier own leased equipment, and a myriad of resellers.

It all really depends on who you look (talking about ones who have NZ based servers) at as some of them are way overpriced.

WebDrive for me too. I find them really great and professional and very quick response during the normal hours, and have after hours service too (chargeable). Also all WebDrive accounts are reseller account and "unlimited" everything (Windows/Linux - your pick).

Show me one host offering NZ servers with data charges anywhere close to those found in the US.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I think I will settle on WebDrive. They're obviously very highly thought of, with 3 recommendations in 6 posts!

They charged me $35, so I could have saved $10 elsewhere but I don't mind. Knowing I can get good service and support when needed is worth the extra $10 a year.

I will most likely choose them for hosting when I need to too, mostly because I want to support a local company rather than use a US host. But for now I will stick with my UK host.

Thanks again for all the quick replies.
