When I moved into my rental a year ago my glass surround shower had really bad water spot stains, nearly opaque, but after using 30 Seconds Water Spot Remover half-a-dozen times and good old elbow grease, I now have nearly perfect glass again that I just use 30 Second Shower Cleaner on about every three/four weeks. Of course we do squeegee after each shower.

My question is this: My 1 year old (in NZ) Japanese import car also has water spots on the windscreen and the rest of the glass, will it be safe to use '30 Seconds Water Spot Remover' on it?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

dont see why not, there are other products out there for cars, that i have safely used in the bathroom to remove water spots.

In the main glass is glass. So, yes. With a caution. Some car products are formulated to avoid damage (which could be just minor degradation over time) to non glass materials unique to cars. You can take it from there : ).

Good suggestion. http://30seconds.co.nz/products/bring-it-on/. Data sheet there as well.

There are probably other issues to address like optical quality etc etc.

Btw ammonia is a big no-no for cars. Don't know if it is in that product. Either way there are good reasons to buy specific car products. The only reason not is 5x the price ; ).

It's the 5X the price part that ticks me off. Nothing for automotive cleaning can be compared to similar products designed to clean your house. Car wash liquid is probably the only thing that could be compared. But the price on the likes of jet washer additive or wheel cleaner is astonishing :(

what can you put in car window cleaning sprays? mild car detergent very diluted?

Now that I have read the side of the bottle it does list "USE ON" ...Car Windshields...

The Bunnings product page says it can be used on windscreens. (interestingly it has the picture of the 30 Seconds 'Water Spot Shield' product but the blurb for the 30 Seconds Bring it On Water Spot Remover - sent them feed back on that one)

Trouble is they want all your details which I really dislike in this era when an email address would do.

So is 30 Seconds the same company as 'Bring-It-On-Cleaner'? they have the same Star logo. You have to request the Bring-It-On-Cleaner data sheet, whilst 30 Seconds you can just download. But the Bring-It-On-Cleaner website says it is safe on windscreens, whilst the 30 Seconds product page makes no mention of windshields.

Yes and that is my greatest worry.

I suspect the original spotting was either caused by acid rain or salt water in Japan as one of the headlight glass covers is also a little opaque compared to its mate which looks brand new and we are the first NZ users of this car.

Really I am just after forum members 'use of' and 'opinions'

Ive been grooming cars for years and my best method yet for removing water spots quickly and safely has been Meguiars Pro medium cut compound and a high speed (or random orbital) buffer with foam pad.

Followed up with some Rain X or wax to make the glass slick again.

For hard to get places some JIF cream cleanser (or autosol) on a green scouring pad works well.

Anything that works in 30 seconds (which I highly doubt would) I would not put anywhere near car paint or plastic trim.

Fact is water spots are hard, you need abrasion and elbow grease, and keep your windscreen waxed (along with your car) you will never have water spot issues again.

They were most likely not water spots then.

No they weren't they were chemical residue left after the water evaporated.
