Was just reading a little more about the upcoming Ghostbusters movie.

I'm so sick of these remakes, and they are all so bad. They take good movies/TV shows, that had nothing wrong with them and 'update' them into PG rated garbage for mass American consumption.

What does everyone think of these endless remakes?

They are fine for those who wish to see them, those that don't wish to see them don't have to,

But they can only make so many movies every year, so for every unnecessary and inferior remake there is one less potentially good original movie. And that hurts us all!

Which one ?

There are TWO upcoming Ghostbusters movies.

One with girls, one with guys.

Hollywood at its dumbest.

All the needless remakes/reboots/rehashes/sequels/prequels are crapola !

I think the one with guys will be the following year, but set in the same 'universe'.

In the words of (the now dead to me) Darth Vader: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

EDIT: Typo

If they sell and make a profit then it is good for the studio, that is what they are there for. Personally I would go and see a Ghostbusters movie but would guess that a great many will and will enjoy it.

2 things:

1) Spiderman and Superman movies tend to happen every 3 years, hard to keep up.

2) So sick of trading on a name.  Take say Mission Impossible, which was a TEAM series on TV.  First minute in and the whole team dies, leaving Tom Cruise.
If you're going to not be faithful to the core of the original then go make some other movie altogether.

What about King Kong and Star Trek? I kind of like those 'updates'. Batman and Superman as well. Even Thunderbirds when you consider its target audience.
Ones like True Grit fall in the middle for me. Not as good as the original, but not bad either.
But then there are the real howlers like Bewitched and The Beverley Hillbillies. So I will admit there are probably more misses than hits when it comes to do overs.
But nostalgia for what we enjoyed in younger years is probably an attraction for some of us, while a new generation have no knowledge of the original. In fact when it comes to movies big on special effects, some of the old stuff looks pretty awful by comparison.

Still waiting for Peter Jackson to do "The Dambusters" though.

They should remake the Shawshank Redemption. call it Shawshank Re-Redemption

PLOT:
He realizes that the outside world has digressed into a society brainwashed by rubbish hollywood movies and decides to kill Michael Bay so he can go back to prison.

Yes! I agree, because that would free him up to make more episodes of Black Sails (which is awesome).

King Kong I can let slide since the original is so old the vast majority of film goers wouldn't have seen the original. Although casting Jack Black... really?

Star Trek reboot are fairly entertaining sci-fi action, but pretty dumbed down compared to REAL Star Trek. It could be argued that as a remake of the 1960's TV series that enough time has passed for it to be remade. But for my money, it's not Star Trek.

I do believe there is a place for remakes under some circumstances. The original needs to be 40+ years old if it was a successful and highly regarded film. If the original is any newer than that, then only remake something that you can make a lot better.

Good remakes:

12 Monkeys - original was a short french film that nobody had heard of.
The Fly - original was a B-grade 1950's sci-fi/horror.
Scarface - original was made 50 years before the remake.

The bottom line is, if you are remaking something where the original is excellent and the audience still remembers it, then the remake will always pale by comparison.

Fantastic Four might be alright if done well, but only because the ones a few years ago were awful - and so will perhaps correct the mistake.

Michael Bay is a whole other topic! And don't forget Friedberg/Seltzer.

The way I see it, we or those around use liked them when they first came out.

Today, the young dont want to see an older movie they want the 2015 version, a new generation is the target market.

That's true, but they can make new movies without taking old ideas that worked well and then destroying them.
