If you use Amazon UK, you might like to keep a weather eye on being arbitrarily joined up to Amazon Prime, and having your bank account debited NZ$157.38.  My wife has just fallen foul of this, and had no knowledge until she noticed the charge in her online banking.  After a small panic and a hunt around, I Goggled 'Amazon Prime Scam' and got a ton of hits with comments from lots of angry people.

My wife 'did' get an email on the 2/3/2015 saying 'Welcome to Amazon Prime', but there was no information like an invite to confirm, so she treated it as no different the raft of similar 'special offers' that arrive in your inbox.

It works like this...  If you use Amazon UK to buy goods for relies in the UK, click on Buy Now, and then on 'Free one day delivery, you are automatically signed up to a one month trial for Amazon Prime, and charged the $157, although it did show as pending on my wife's account.

If you think you might be a victim, go to your Amazon UK account, scroll down to Settings, and Manage my Prime membership.  On the left of the page is a Cancel my membership link, and if you are still inside the one month trial period, and have not used it, you will get a full refund.  If you missed the cut-off, Amazon have just taken 157 of your hard earned dollars.

It's not really a scam though is it? Your wife signed up for Amazon Prime. She may not have realised it, but I'm not sure that's Amazon's fault (although it could be if it were misleading).

sure its one of those opt-in / opt-out things, but its a bit harsh calling this a scam

I'm sure Amazon will quite happily refund you the entire fee if you have them up about it
