Hey geeks,

So with the NZ dollar likely to hit parity with its Aussie counterpart this coming week, what options are available to us here for making the most of the opportunity, shopping wise?

Looking at things like iPad Air 2 which sell from the AU Apple Store or JB Hifi for about $150 cheaper than buying locally, it would be well worth while looking at buying from there if shipping can be arranged by a 3rd party.

Any ideas please?

Also, any other items that might be worth looking at to make savings?

The only issue I can see is warranty.. and postage.
I send my kids their birthday presents and I haven't sent one that's been less than $40 to post. Quite often I'll buy from a NZ online store and get it shipped straight to them.

I haven't looked at any Aussie deals, mostly the better NZ dollar leads to better deals from the USA IME. Just need to watch postage, GST, and duty costs if applicable which can quickly wipe out any savings. You also do not have any CGA cover, and potentially warranty issues problems depending on what you purchase and any manufacturers limitations on parallel imported products. I am not 100% sure on Apple for warranty but at that price point I would budget duty and GST. You may get away with it, but if not possibly could end up even dearer than just buying in NZ.

Good time for a holiday though....

and "parity" is just the average of buy/sell rates. there's still a little more to go before you can Buy AUD at 1.00 or less. then there is commission, so a bit more beyond 1.00 is needed.

CGA is irrelevant. Australian Consumer Law (which in some respects is stronger than the Consumer Guarantees Act) explicitly covers Australian businesses selling to New Zealanders, and New Zealand state owned enterprises selling to Australians (don't know why they felt like explicitly mentioning that). Therefore, you're still protected though you will have to pay NZ Post's hideous shipping rates to send anything back for repair/refund/replacement.

People should decide / factor the CGA coverage as a percentage amount against purchases and determine if the premium is worth it or otherwise. Or have a level that is negligable/low but the rate increases with the purchase price. I found the CGA was worth the expense for PSU. Pretty much everything else I've ever bought either still works or was handed down to family members.
