Has anyone else noticed that Torpedo7 are selling some products at a much cheap price to Australians?

For example, the same snowboard is NZ$330 or AU$270 = NZ$275:

The Vestal Dolby Plastic watch is on "clearance" on the NZ website for NZ$129.99, but its normal price on ebay Australia is AU$69.99 = NZ$70.53

The items ship from the same Torpedo7 warehouse in Hamilton.

What gives?

Are you sure about that?

Positive.

Pick any product at http://stores.ebay.com.au/torpedo7australia and you'll see the item ships from "Hamilton, Waikato, NZ"

Maybe the prices were set when the AU dollar was at or below 0.90. There are a lot of price disparities now (go look at the Apple store). Adjustments may need to be made (and I think that will mean the Australian price increases rather than the NZ price decreases) if the AU dollar stays low.

Not really comparable, as it is large supermarket chains overseas that have the negioating power to arrange special pricing as they are buying in bulk, and then there are a whole lot of things involved with shipping and storing it safely. They are also often repacking it, so are buying a wholesale product and adding value.
Individual retailers prices should be similar, as they are selling a commodity packaged widget, and are selling to individuals, not a wholesaler. Really the main pricing difference should be the exchange rate. But as the NZ dollar and Ozzie dollar are nearly at parity, their shouldn't be much of a difference these days.

I already checked, Torpedo7 won't ship to NZ from their eBay page.

I can understand differences in prices for different retailers in different countries, but this is different. This is the same product, sold from the same warehouse in Hamilton, but at a different price for NZ vs Australia.

Also note that GST in Australia is only 10%, and in NZ its 15%.
So that snowboard in AU would be AUD$245 excl AU GST, and in NZ it would be NZ$286 excl NZ GST.
Convert $245 to NZ using a rate in what a bank would sell you AUD today, and that $245 becomes roughly $254.
So only about NZ$32 difference. Maybe that is to cover an extra overheads for selling to Aus, or just perhaps they need to match prices from other AU retailers? Only T7 would know.

What gives? Good question. The price difference for the first item, excluding postage, is only $11. Once shipping is factored in (different rates for club members etc), the difference is even less.

It is not unusual for businesses to sell products at a reduced rate via online auction sites. I purchased two laptops a few years ago through TradeMe, at almost half what the same company was selling them in-store for. Many eBay sellers also have their own branded stores with higher prices, and additional shipping charges.

They do not pay GST in Australia, only in New Zealand, and GST is zero-rated for export.
