Got some rellies flying up to Aucks. They managed to make it to the airport from Invercargill but their flight has been cancelled and they are shortly going to be locked out of the airport when it closes. They spent all their money on excess baggage charges and now expect me to perform some magic to get them out of spending the night outside the terminal.

Anyone got any suggestions? Is there a 24 hour petrol station where they can spend the night drinking coffee or something? (Well, I say, spent all their money, they have enough for a night's worth of coffee but not for a taxi into town and a hotel.)

Tough call. Not much open I would have thought, although maybe something at Mosgiel? The Z petrol station on the corner of Gladstone and Quarry Roads says 7x24. Got to get there from the airport though. Good luck!

If 'in transit', meaning the bookings were made at a distance from the airport or through a travel agent, usually the air line/travel agent can be prevailed upon to accommodate travellers in such conditions as cancelled flights.  Have they tried that avenue?

If they did the bookings & travel to airport independently, then perhaps a call to the local radio station might result in that a kind citizen of Dunedin might take them in?

So what happened? Where did they end up for the night?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Ouch that's not fun. It's usually over $90 just to get in to Dunedin from the airport too!

Some kind person found them a place to spend the night.

All was good in the end.

Great. There really is nothing out that way. The main highway doesn't run past which is probably the main problem.

Glad to hear it all worked out.
