Which is the correct forum for a general question about back up methodology and hardware?

If it's for you at home then I guess desktop computing. For enterprise stuff use the IT Pro forum.

If in doubt I just post in "off topic" and someone moves it to the right place for me.

If you're referring to the topic you started yesterday, I think the sub forum it's in is okay. Seems to be a quiet weekend here so perhaps the right person/people haven't seen it yet?

Try to make a more specific selection than Off Topic if you can. Reason being that Off Topic isn't always monitored that closely and may be missed by mods. (Just trying to help!)

Yes, just wasn't sure if that was the right place for it to go.

why not make the post when you think should go and if you are still a little unsure report it so a mod can decide reasonably quickly if it's the right place or not

It's usually noticed anyway, but there are exceptions. You could always PM one of us if you're concerned at all.
