I know this is a week or so late, but what did fans of Justified think of the finale?

It got good reviews everywhere, but I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed.

I did not even know that it was on.

I watched series 1 and 2 and enjoyed them, then it was dropped by whichever channel had it at that time and I never found it again.

I found it a little underwhelming.

There could have been a bit more closure for some of the characters.

Not on regular broadcast TV here. Season 6 (which was the final season) has just finished in the US.

I'd agree the final episode was a bit underwhelming - especially given it's been generally a terrific series (edit - terrific programme, ie overall across its six series) - but I think I'd rather have that than the finale of The Sopranos, which I believe was evidence of the writers trying to crawl up their own orifices (which they'd already been doing for the last season or two)... I don't think this last series was its finest - I think back to some of the earlier ones like Boyd as preacher. I do wonder if they've left room for a spin-off, ie the weed growing business in Kentucky, but there probably aren't enough strong characters left to do this properly.

As a series, Justified is a bit like Banshee - it didn't pretend to be a grand take on the state of the human condition, but has typically provided good stories and some terrific characters (of course the main two protagonists, but other secondary figures like Wayne Duffy and Boon [introduced too late in the series to really make the most of what was a great character]). Also the audio was pretty fine this last series!

I enjoyed it, I have watched all 6 seasons and was disappointed it was ended.

It had it's tense moments and I was a little underwhelmed more wasn't tied up, but it was an ok end.

I agree with this. They seemed to be trying to make Boyd less likable and more of a bad guy, where as through the rest of the seasons he was the bad guy that you wanted to win.

I think in a lot of those seasons it was deliberately done like that, but make no mistake the guy is a stone cold killer, and evil to boot, felt like the right conclusion. I am glad he didn't die. I was disappointed by the gunfight with the creepy guy at the end.

He was? He was the bad guy I personally wanted to shoot if no one else was going to get on with it, if I'm honest.

I liked Boyd a lot more in season 1-5. Sure, he was a bad dude, but you had to love him. Although, I was team Walter White too.

i thought the finale was fitting.

it felt a little rushed and contrived but overall was a good end to a series that ran a couple of seasons too long.

I thought aspects of it were ok. I didn't like the 'years later' scenes but I guess I would have not been happy left hanging either. Maybe.

My biggest annoyance was, as pointed out, the sudden need to make Boyd explicitly more evil. I wasn't that chuffed with the de-volution of Ava over this season either. I did like seeing more of that girl (can never remember her name) bound to take over the criminal empire. And I liked the slimy gun fighter a lot. I thought the crims buying it in horrible ways was good... live by, die by. And I'm glad Boyd didn't die.

I had to watch the scene with Raylan and Boyd four times to catch that line between them about coal mining. Sound was bad there.

I'm sorry to see it end, the show was hugely entertaining.

Edit: Oh yes, not happy about the hat. Should have bought a new one.

So true! That new hat really did not suit him (or his style) at all. It worked well on Boon (the "creepy guy") as it added nicely to his creepiness.

At least with the 'years later' flash forward it didn't have them shacked up, so not fully sucrose "happy ending".

I watched seasons 1 to 6. And thought the finale was fitting. But 6 seasons was enough. The story lines becoming familiar with outsiders coming in and trying to take over the county. However, the threaded storylines of individual characters that stretched right back to season one held things together.
I will admit I sat down to watch the final episode with a bit of a sense of foreboding. The introduction of a young gunfighter midway through the final season had me convinced that the finale was going be just that for Raylan. And even with the 4 year epilogue scene in Miami I was half expecting Boyd to somehow show up.
Some of the characters exited sooner than in earlier seasons with Dickie Bennett the first to go really early. And even Katherine and Mikey, unless the finale was run as a double episode in the US.
Once the action was all over with 20 minutes still to go I did wonder how they were going to wrap things up. But I thought they did quite a good job of 'completing the circle' with storylines of Boyd and Ava.
So the finale left me feeling not happy, sad or shocked but satisfied.

Edit: I could comment on the subplots of Loretta, Wynn Duffy and the Deputy Chief that were concluded as well, but enough is enough.

Yes, at least Raylan didn't have a syrupy ending. Did he really have to wind up in Florida? Ugh.

Such an awesome show. I thought they ended it better than a lot of series have managed in recent times. I think whenever a show ends the producers can't keep everyone happy so I thought they did ok.

Sad to see it go. The characters of the show were just brilliantly written and cast. Boon, Dewey, Choo Choo to name a few from this season. Definately top 5 tv show in my book.
