I'm wanting to branch out and try new brands with our machine, so far I've only used the Nespresso ones which aren't exactly cheap.
What do you use? I prefer a medium strength coffee if that makes sense, like not too strong but not weak either. Unsweetened preferred so I can choose whether or not to use sweetener on a certain day or whatever.

Also, has anyone tried refillable pods? I've seen some online and I'd love to try it out with the old stuff I used but I'm too scared the thing will melt inside the machine or something hahaha.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Hi
I have  a Nespresso U machine and went through similar motions.

I have tried other cheaper pods but the coffee was not good, lacking the strong flavour and crema that Nespresso capsules provide.

I have also tried using the refillable ones with my preferred Illy espresso grind.  Found it very cumbersome and
messy. Well you could fill  a batch of 20 at a go. !

The closest that I liked was the Robert Harris capsules which worked fine.
Beware that some capsules do not fit properly and can drop through to the catcher.

Finally gave up on these trials and stuck to Nespresso capsules, and happy that an outlet opened at Ballanntynes in CHCH.
End of story

cheers.

I got ones at the supermarket that come individually sealed in a box. Cant recall brand. They were the best of a bad bunch.

Gave up and got a proper office style machine that grinds and makes. Much better.

I've just got onto this bandwagon.   Apart from the sampler I got with the machine I've tired the avalanche vanilla capsules which were more than acceptable but it's candy not coffee :)   http://shop.countdown.co.nz/Shop/ProductDetails?Stockcode=789994&name=avalanche-coffee-capsules-vanilla&search

We tried several of the cheap brand machines and they are no where near as good as the Nespresso machines or pods. The coffee from the Nespesso is at the correct heat etc and the taste is excellent.
We have owned and still have an Espresso machine and never use it now, Nepresso is quicker no messing around, way less mess and clean up is a breeze. We also have the Nespesso Pod Box which looks cool and tidy.

Like the other comments I tried cheaper pods but went back to Nespresso pods. As the saying goes...you get what you pay for.

The problem I have with nespress pods is the absurd number of totally gross ones they make.

I started out with a MAP coffee pod machine, which was good for the first 100 odd cups then things got granular and finally it died a natural death.  There was little support in NZ for this make of machine.

I didnt hestate and went straight into Harvey Normans and bought the latest Nespresso machine, the one with the milk caddy on the front of it.  I have never been one for following consumer trends, but I must say that the Nespresso is just awesome.  Coffee is at the right temperature, frothy milk is excellent (just like a bought one, with out the fancy designs on top) Great selection of flavors from strong to mild. Also have hot chocolate now for the Mrs.

Only disappointment is you have to buy the pods online, but in saying that, delivery is quick.  Had the machine for 6 months now and love it.

Yeah, I do for me but when you go to other peoples places and they just have all the hazelnut and other BS ones its just ugh. Someone once tried to make a decaf one for me! Hell no!

Jeds #4 beans in my jura is much better. No options other than if its got milk or not. Always a good coffee except when I forget to clean the milk thing.

I wish they would put flowers or something on the lids of the BS ones so that you knew what they were, instead of having to match this peachy red colour up to a chart on the lid of a box that may have been in the sun and faded a little. Cant read those stupid names in most peoples indoor night time lighting either.

You've just reminded me that I need to order some more capsules. I'm about to try these guys:

http://honestcoffee.co.nz

NZ owned and operated and better for the environment and all that. I've not tried them before but thought I'd test the waters with them with a small order. I'm not normally especially eco-minded but the fact that these capsules biodegrade in about 6 months compared to 150-200 years of the Nespresso branded ones made me take notice as I use two pods per coffee!

Tried quite a few pods I found at the supermarket. The best of the lot was L'Or, available through supermarkets here in New Zealand. Tried a couple of other brands (from supermarket and The Warehouse) but they are all too bitter. Stick with Nespresso or try L'Or.
