I swear petrol has gone up again, or am I going nuts?

It dropped in price last week and hadn't changed when I drive home this evening.

With the NZ% vs US$ having dropped by around 5c in the last month I expect a LOT of things to start going up pretty soon.

When I went past BP this morning about 8.45am it was 199.9 / l
About an hour later it was 208.9 / l

I decided to try my luck at caltex around the corner and they were still at 199.9 so all good.

Sure did go up.

Luckily I was already pumping gas when they changed the price on the big signs, and they couldn't charge me the new price. Doesn't get much closer than that.

Doesn't the excise duty also go up another 3c/L on 1 July?  (+GST of course, nothing like taxing a tax!)

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Yip, you're right. Seemed to be $2.07 at the beginning of the month, then dropped down to $2.04 for a few days and now back up to $2.08.

Have a look around here for an idea of what petrol currently costs around the country: http://www.pricewatch.co.nz/Default.aspx?lyr=10&price_type=avg

The AA keep a list of historical prices, if you're interested: http://www.aa.co.nz/cars/motoring-blog/petrolwatch/

Would be interesting to see historical petrol price graphed against crude oil price and US$ exchange rate

Too many places around here have been doing 1.999 or 2.039 on the 91 and having 2.169 or worse on 95. Havent needed 98 since I got rid of the gutless skyline but might try some in the toyota to see if it helps with its lethargy.

I think sbiddle is referring to page 4 & 5 in this PDF available from the MBIE 'Weekly oil price monitoring' page. More generic energy price info is also available here. For me personally, the Key Indicators in the NZ Energy Quarterly are fascinating.

yeah, but as part of the ACC cuts it' will fall by 3c at the same time, so in effect there is no change in fuel taxes on 1 July this year...

Yep has gone up a few cents.

Mainly because the NZD is weaker. The OCR was cut yesterday, so not unusual to see a bit of a dip in the currency too.

It dropped ~10cents about 2 weeks ago for about 3 days by me.  Sadly I thought it would drop more before filling up...
