First of all this is possibly not the best forum but I find Geekzone the so good for such bizarre quiestions and good responses.

So I'm helping out on a scoping project to find out how to sell NZ products in Japan. Does anybody know how about setting up this type venture?

We have a Japan office and we normal do telemarketing (yuck.. I know, I hate it too) but they want to branch out into selling of NZ products to the Japanese.

I'm so naive on this of this as this is not my normal job roll. If anyone can point me any pointers to get me started that would be great?

Information I have found:

  • I need to find a NZ distributor and build relations.

  • Get a Import & Export Licence in Japan. Not sure how to go about this.

  • Possibly find a distributor in Japan

I'd be Googling... off the top of my head, it would be worth contacting NZTE also - they can put you on to any relevant local/national government business/industry developmental agencies that can assist. They also do a lot of diplomatic work so could help create and build some good connections in Japan.

It would depend a lot on the industry your in as that will dictate market access, distribution models, tariffs, transport, etc etc.
