I've had the worst week.  Two Different PC's, Two Different PC Shops, Two different Courier companies.
One PC arriving with a bashed case, the other with dead hard drives  (both appear to be courier damage from rough handling/impact damage).

Anyone else have any courier horror stories?

We get a lot through CourierPost, NZC, and I think PBT, Fliway and a few others, including lots of PC and server hard drives, and I have not heard of any courier issues re: hard drives in the 15 months I have been here (Though I don't have anything to do with inwards stock, but you usually here about anything like that)

Darn ... tough luck!

20 years in the industry and I can't remember EVER having anything broken by couriers or airline baggage handlers.

On the other hand ... we moved house recently and that is a different story!

Are these brand name laptops or cheapies?

Both are custom made PC's, not brand names.  It's odd to have two PC's in the same week have this. :)
I've had many PC parts delivered with no problems.

We have had a few cases where the Courier Post drivers sign for the package themselves, and then leave it unattended, one got stolen. Under the Carriage of Goods Act, a carrier's liability is limited to $1,500 per package, so if you have really bad damage you will need to show that it is intentional, which is quite hard to do. For expensive stuff, it might pay to buy the additional insurance.

I know someone who had a PC sent away for repair, and on its return trip the courier had a crash. The PC was in bubblewrap inside its sturdy and oversized box. There appeared to be no damage whatsoever to the box, so it was signed for and courier driver left.

Upon taking the PC out of box there was a clunk noise that did not sound good. We opened the case up, and it turned out the crash impact had caused the (weight of) the heatsink/fan assembly to shear off, and it pulled the CPU out of its socket, and mangled all the CPU pins in the process.

Obviously at that stage we were unaware of the couriers crash, so we though, who is going to believe us that it was like that when we opened it, but upon ringing the courier company they were forthcoming with the fact it was involved in an accident, so it was covered.
