I Need to return a pair of sunglasses to the US for a credit, and Paypal requires me to sent it tracked. Sunglasses are quite small and it's in a small hard case anyways, NZ post tell me $50 to send it tracked?

Are there any other options ? Consider Youshop would charge $18 to get it here!

You might need to try other international courier services that actually have a real international presence and see if they will do it any cheaper, but from experience the only way to do it through NZ Post was using that delightly expensive Economy International Courer service frown

It really annoyed me when people posting stuff to me from the US (US Postal Service) could just add tracking for as little as $1.50 (from memory). When those items arrived in NZ I see NZ Post would add their own tracking to cover tracking within NZ - could be an interesting space for oftering a cheaper tracked service for sending NZ-to-overseas...

Good luck

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. yep shipping from NZ is VERY expensive compared to shipping into NZ.

Is the return worth the cost?

I like Zagg they send a prepaid package to return the good!

Not wanting to be that guy but this is why it is not as simple as buying something from overseas because it is cheaper, there is a risk and that is when it comes to returns.

Actually could the person you purchased from arrange a freight forward for you? might be cheaper?

Stuff like this is why NZ will only ever really export sheep, milk and software. Costs more at retail to post something to the south island than to get it there from overseas sometimes.

Take a punt and don't send it tracked (how much are they?) but tell Paypal the "tracking number" at the bottom of the receipt. If they can't look it up but the glasses arrive anyway, then you're fine :-)

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Shoebox sized thing to AU was also more than it cost to get the same item into NZ from the USA via youshop + across USA shipping.

Something I have been curious to try (but not got around to it yet) is to use a domestic tracking number to see where it gets.

You can buy the tracking stickers ahead of time (a post shop would not put it on at the time of purchase - at least they wouldn't allow it when I did try), and stick the tracking number on the back of the package. You still have a tracking number (that will likley only work in NZ) but at least you have one.

Yes you can. The only issue is if you use stamps then you pay GST, if you pay the international postage over the counter then you don't pay any GST on the postage.

I was regularly sending lots of small packages internationally at one stage and the Manager of the Post Office I was using suggested I just use stamps and put them in the box until I reminded him about the GST.

Unfortunately the sender is being very difficult. Regardless, I have received MANY MANY items in the last few years this is my first item required to be returned.

Point them to those services linked to above to show the ridiculous cost - then see if they can arrange the return from their end and what the cost would be? They then could invoice you for the return shipping.

The sender doesn't want the items back, she doesn't want to refund me, Paypal have got involved. She won't even reply to emails.

Oh crap! I know what that's like. PayPal expect that anyone, anywhere can do everything they can do in the US at the same cost frown

I feel for ya - Good luck!!!
