Does anyone know where I can get glasses with glass lenses?

None of the online services I found offer glass, and according to my optician, glass lenses have been phased out since 2008, which happens to be when I got my last pair of glasses. I recall even then I had to wait a week for lenses from Australia.

I see no reason why I should add a microfibre cloth to the list of things to carry every day, when glass will stand up to more abuse, and a quick wipe with any old rag or paper towel is all that is needed to clean them. I don't believe anti-scratch coatings will come close to the properties of glass.

Any suggestions welcome.

You haven't put up one good argument for glass.

ive had my gasses for 3.5 years (yes i need a new set) and have never used the microfibre cloth, i just my tshirt or toilet paper. My wife who got glasses about the same time, used her microfibre cloth, and he glasses are more scratched than mine.

i have very few if any visible scratches on my glasses.

Glass=heavy. Plastic=no red marks on nose :-)

I don't need much vision correction, so the weight is a non-issue for me. My vision is also quite stable, so longevity (in particular scratch resistance) is the most important consideration.

You can order them online.

Expensive when you get to bifocal/progressive, high RI, anti-reflective.
Perhaps opticians should be told to use the description "spectacles" if glass lenses are no longer available.

A friend lost her eyesight (completely) due to glass lenses shattering in her eyes in an accident. I'd rather have plastic.

Just get standard lenses, with the coatings. You can use any cloth you want. I have Zeiss I think they're excellent.

Mine are pretty much the same, though now that I think about it I think I've had them for around 4 or 5 years. But yeah, tshirt or whatever else is on hand is pretty much all I ever use to clean them and I just checked and can't see any scratches on them.

Sounds like a good candidate for laser correction... just throwin' it out there ;)
