For years I used the One News section of the TVNZ website as my homepage. On Monday they unveiled a major site redesign. I looked at it for a while and then went "Nope" and change my homepage to Stuff.

But it has got me thinking. Am I just being a middle-aged fuddy-duddy who is getting more and more set in his ways and likes things the way he likes them, or has the way people like news to be presented changed that much?

What are other people's opinion on the site? Do you like it or join me in feeling it is all a bit of a trainwreck?

Not a site I visit often, it's a bit cleaner than the old one. I always felt the old one was a bit busy

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Why not just use https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news

Even with the changes its a whole lot better than Stuff.
Actually I cannot think of anything worse than having Stuff as my homepage.

nzherald is also a lot better.

How about our publicly funded ad-free news source? http://www.radionz.co.nz/news

The site you listed was the one I used. I just find it to be big blocks of blah that is changing on you as you scroll through it to find something you might give a care about since it is sorted by time.

NZHerald does not seem too bad I must admit.

NZ Herald keep on muttering about a paywall eventually being introduced, so I tried switching to Stuff for a while; using both their website, and their mobile app.

Both are an utter disgrace IMO, nowhere near as good as the trusty old Herald.  I kept feeling like I was missing half of the news, and the mobile app kept on crashing, as well as stupidly saying it couldn't find the weather for my location every time I loaded it.

Recently I asked the Herald when they plan to update their Windows 8 app, which needs a bit of a tidy up and the ability to display links correctly as their mobile app does.  I received a very prompt and polite response, assuring me that an upgrade to the Windows 8 NZ Herald app is in the works, and thanking me for my suggestion.

If NZ Herald do decide to introduce a reasonable fee for access to all of their sites, I would be happy to pay it, rather than put up with Stuff.  They are not in the same league as the Herald.

Having said all that, I think the new TVNZ website is pretty good.  It has been given a makeover so as to increase usability on touch-enabled devices, which has to be a good thing.

I have both Radio NZ and Stuff on permanent tabs. So much better than the fluff on morning (and evening) TV. I don't think Stuff is as bad as it is made out to be. Maybe a little tabloid but you have a choice as to what items you click on. Certainly I prefer the Dominion Post to the Herald, but I think that also has to do with political viewpoints.

Even I think the One-News website is a bit awful. It's a desktop website and it's trying to be a tablet. It really really doesn't look right.

It's the best by a long way for the desktop.

The TVNZ format just doesn't work on the desktop but do they consider that to be relevant when presenting online news anymore?

The quality of reporting on Stuff is just abysmal. And do they know what a spell checker is?

Stuff may or may not be a media sewer but don't kick it for its spelling. No-one in New Zealand knows how to spell.

I've seen the odd mistake on the BBC site lately and they spend over $200m a year keeping that going.
