Howdy,

Im just starting out with selling online, and have been comparing payment solutions. Initially, I was thinking Paypal payment standard (payments pro would require me to already be doing decent volumes).
Then theres eWAY. With the sales volumes im expecting (not much to start with), they offer a plan with no monthly fees @ 3.4% + 0c (merchant account included). And they wont have to leave my site to pay, which is important to me (unlike paypal standard).

Anything else I should be aware of in my comparison?
My site is developed with the awesome Django framework. i see a couple of apps for integrating with eWay, so that shouldnt be a biggie.

We use eWAY. Was annoying that I had to have an internet merchant account number, so had to go through a whole process of setting up a business account at the BNZ which is one of the banks they support. Would rather have just given them an existing NZ bank account to deposit the money into - so pay pal worked better there.

But if your starting out in business, i suggest picking either Westpac or BNZ as they seem to be the most business & internet merchant friendly.

As for general usage, eWAY seems to work well for us. no complaints.

Oh i would also prefer they took the fees out before they put the cash into our accounts, instead we get the cash then they charge the fees back once a month by direct debit.

Yep, we use eWay for our payment gateway. Like you, low volumes to begin with. Hassle free, nothing to report. Payment always goes through. Support was always contactable during the setup process, with a real person (who may have been in Australia but that's a heck of a lot better than some alternatives) answering.

3.4% is quite high. I would shop around.

Having said that, we use eWay here and in Australia. Funnily enough, our merchant fees in Australia (Westpac AU) are a fraction of what we get charged here (BNZ).
