Hi There,

I don't ship stuff internationally much and am wondering what is the least expensive way to ship a 15 inch laptop screen to the USA? It does not have to be a fast service, as long as it gets there within two weeks.

I'm doing a laptop repair for a mate and the replacement screen we purchased from the spare parts store in the USA has developed a fault, so we need to ship it back to get a replacement.

The costs for this repair are beginning to escalate, so we want a cheap and reliable shipping service to send this part back to the USA.

Any recommendations?

Regular NZ Post is likely to be the least expensive way.

Two months would not be a fast service, 2 weeks on the other hand... Depending on where in the States it is going and how many hands it has to pass through 2 weeks might be a fast service/turn around.

The absolute best be would be if you knew someone travelling to the US who could then post it once they land.

If it cost you under about $100US I think you'll find it's uneconomical to return the screen.

This... any reason you didnt use a local supplier ? Just had wifes laptop screen (17") replaced for $215 inc GST and installation last week.....

I bought the screen from www.vivo-us.com It was about half the price of buying it locally (including shipping).

Yep, you might be right. We tend to think positively that the replacement part will work when we order these things, but if it doesn't work out, buying from overseas can have unexpected costs when you have to return the item for replacement.

I did have family traveling to the US last month, but not at present. Dang!

I hate to say it, but now you've fallen into the potential trap of the downside of buying from overseas - the escalation of costs when something goes wrong with the imported product.

I'm not knocking it, I've brought things in from overseas also, but that is the trade off.

Try and get them to arrange the return, otherwise you may just have to cut your losses.

The other thing is, are they requiring your to have insurance on the item being returned? If so, then the cheapest service from NZ Post that carries insurance is Economy Intl Courier and they cost of that starts at about $45 for a smaller, lighter item.
