Is it just me, or are the new Pak n Save ads hideously hideous?

Seriously, they are the unfunniest, most stupid ads I have seen in quite a long time. That stupid stick figure with a zero for a head...

Raise your hand if you hug your supermarket on a regular basis. In fact, raise your hand if you have ever huggeds any supermarket, anytime.

And that other one about the back pocket. "...more money in your back pocket. That one. No the one on the back. That's the one."
I want to know who made these abominations in the eyes of the Lord and kill them. The old Pak n Smak ads that had that annoying beeping checkout thing were much better - at least the attempt at humour in those ones wasn't quite as weak.

EDIT: I believe I just posting a thread about Pak n Save ads. I need to get out more.

Kill the ads and go back to junk mail.  That way I know exactly where I'm saving.  Oh yes, and don't get rid of the regular pricing so I can compare new price with old.

Don't worry about getting out more often.  It's Christmas, remember.

Geek boy works there.  I hug him sometimes...

Signed the serious shopper.

I suppose that is true, and to answer your question, no. I now have a personal vendetta against the place and all who are connected with it. Until they prove that they're the cheapest game in town, which I've yet to see.

Leisa got asked for ID for cigarettes in Nelson a few years back just before she gave up.

Advertising is nothing if you can't remember what the product was so ... good ad in that respect.

It took me a while to remember what the ad was ABOUT so ineffective in that way but so is much of the stuff around is (all my clients are in advertising so I watch for 'em).

I read a story recently about one company doing some market research to see if their ads were remembered as the right product / brand and at the same time they questioned about their OPPOSITION's ads.  They found that their ads worked but a large number of people associated their opposition's ads with the wrong product (ie. the guy doing the research) and so a HUGE waste of money for the opposition product.

I personally think that the ads which said such things as "We dont use fancy shelveing" in order to save us money are quite hypocritical.
They wish to save us money by not putting in expensive shelving then blowing this money on expensive, extensive advertising campaigns.

Pak 'n Save sucks since they got rid of junkmail.

1. They now don't have to discount as competitively (mailer wars) because regardless of the fact that the same crap gets recycled week after week in the "Aisle of Value", we still keep going because they have built a reputation of the lowest prices (even if it is no longer true, or as true).

2. They have this ridiculous "lowest price challenge", where they don't promise that it is the lowest price available at a supermarket - they just promise that it is lower than any other supermarket is advertising in a mailer or other advertisement. So you get a ridiculous situation of products with price promises that another supermarket sells cheaper, but you can't get it matched because it is not an advertised special (it's just lower at the NORMAL price).

At least with the old mailer wars, you could decide that it might be better going to another supermarket on any particular week. Now you only find this out after you visit Pak 'n Save. Clever.
