I've been following the price of the Lenovo X1 (gen 3) on their website.

The low end model has always been priced at $1999 since I have been watching.

I receive emails on occassion from lenovo that there is a sale on this model -- the latest today, click tuesday, guessing lenovos reponse to click monday.

So I checked the 'click tuesday' x1 price....still $1999.

Surely, if something always costs $1999 it cannot be said to be on sale? Regardless of the RRP, because at no time do they ever sell for the rrp.

I wonder what the consumer law says on this type of thing, but it feels like a scam to me. Someone who does not follow the prices might think they are getting a bargain.

It was updated 2014 specifically to end this practice

I will guess lenovo are running the marketing from aus or us and don't know yet. You can submit online at the commerce commission.

I'm very careful with "specials" at our local supermarket - sometimes they cost more than the normal price

Yup, I'm often checking lenovos site for deals, (brought an entry level computer a few months back for $350 - Pentium g3220, 2GB ram) and I often feel the same way. You've got to be very carefull because the deals often seem 'rigged'.

I don't think Lenovo are doing anything wrong as they have advertised a Click Tuesday clearance model/configuration of X1 for $2,499. It just doesn't happen to be the model/configuration the OP wants in the range of X1 Carbons.

I don't think they care about the NZ online market since putting laptops in selected retailers, Aus still gets reasonable specials from time to time but NZ prices typically don't see any further discount.

Are they are registered NZ company though? IANAL, but if they aren't, they possibly aren't bound by NZ's laws. One thing is that prices may have gone up due to the low NZ dollar, so $1999 at the beginning of the year maybe close to $2500-3000 now with the exchange rate..

Well, you can see the X1 is on sale (it is always on sale, but not special click tuesday sale), eg..

Web price:$2,299.00After eCoupon: $1,999.00

inc. GST & delivery

You save: $300.00 (13%)

So, this looks like a sale to me right? This is a permanent price though, and I've received emails in the past saying the specific model is on sale but it is still 1999.
