Well I have sold my Iphone6 Plus in preparation for my new Iphone6S Plus.

Circumstances meant I sold this a week before the due date for my new phone (read was offered very good money for it)

No big deal I purchased a Vodafone Smart Prime as a spare phone a while ago when they are going for around $99 so I have that to use. Coming from an Iphone that was babied, and I mean when it was sold there virtually wasn't a mark on it! to a disposable phone I thought I would see how much this one could take. Bearing in mind the plastic rear cover so very easily marked I began to be less than careful with it, at first accidently dripping it on floor, then not caring, kicking it along the ground when I did drop it.

So apart from the aforementioned scratch on the rear cover what has all this dropping and kicking netted?

NO A SINGLE SCRATCH! It has been slide across the ground on the screen and it hasn't a single mark on the screen!

The bezel hasn't a mark on it and it works fine.

I am wondering how much punishment a $99 smart phone can actually take! Once I have my iphone I thing I may have to see!

Forget the iPhone.  The Smart Prime is a good android phone well worth even $150 full price and doesn't have weekly bug fixes to download!

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

You haven't been following android very closely then.  They're monthly, they're patching remotely exploitable issues.
Of course, if the Vendor of the handset doesn't make these critical fixes available to you, well yes, you won't have weekly bug fixes to download.

But that's not a good thing.

I buy a new phone every week, although lately this has slowed drastically to one a month. I have one of these phones and they are amazing value for money. The camera is the best I've experienced on a phone.

However when it was time to move it on, on Trademe, like new condition, I got endless questions "Is it faulty?" "whats wrong with it?" "does it function ok?" "why are you selling?" from all different traders, I've never had so many people ask on a phone before, so I took it off TM - I'll just keep it. Far out.

Will hold you to that ;) And we want video footage ;)

Will also accept it being run over, microwaved, thrown into a clothes dryer or similar ;)

Wow, bold claim on the camera! I have not found this myself.

Obviously your used to top shelf phones, but for a budget phone, I've never seen a better camera.

At first glance, I thought you said: Will it bend? In reference to the iphone bendgate saga.

This thread sounds like the cell phone version of Top Gear's treatment of the Toyota Hilux.  Hmm, perhaps the Smart Prime is the ISIL's preferred mobile phone... ?

Well I missed that as well.

So I have been thinking about this one and I think I do have some tests to perform.

Obviously I will have to wait until my Iphone arrives before completing them.

I wonder if a smartphone can take the following?

Being run over by a car?

Being stood on by a horse?

Clearly this phone needs the dunk test doing on it.

Being used as a chew toy for a lab?

Open to any other ideas, bearing in mind I do not have access to firearms or explosives :)

I'd be curious to see if it recovers in a bowl of rice.

I just dropped it into the dish washer at work (didn't put it on) but that may be another test.

Dish Washer then rice bowl :)

My sister purchased one of those drop proof cameras a while back. To introduce me to it she says, "hey, I got a new camera", and biffs it at me across the room. Talk about reaction time. Quite a good social experiment you could put your prime through.
It's especially alarming for people when you have finished a conversation on the phone to throw the phone either at them or on the ground...

I know it's cheating but take the battery out first to give it a chance. You can always give it a second round. Lets drag out the abuse on this phone for as long as possible!!!
