Just wondering what everyone thinks about the new page layout and design on TradeMe?

I like some of the new functions, but visually I think there is something really unappealing and I can quite figure out how to describe it.  For lack of a better term I think it looks unbalanced and disjointed.  When I look at it my eye feels like the page is lopsided.

I agree. I really hate it, and have sent Trademe that feedback. They responded saying they are sorry I don't like the new page layout.

I now find myself having to go out of my way to see things like "Questions and answers", bidder history etc. The search settings keep resetting (doesn't remember my preferences), when I change my search entry, and it keeps showing grid view , which I hate!

It seems that they opt now to NOT show more information on a page , unless you find and click for more info. (such a bidder history)

All in all, a big step backwards in functionality and convenience - as far as I'm concerned. I really really much prefer the old layout, that was developed over time and for me was polished, functional, and clear.

I agree. it looks very scrambled and just doesn't click, for want of a better description.

I also don't like how it says how many people are watching the auctions. However some people may like that.

Yeah, but so was the old one.

I think the new layout is awful compared to the old one.

I like the new home with the displayed favourites and recent views. I would have like to see a bit more better html5 use and less JavaScript reliance.

It looks like ebay from the 90's

It's terrible.  I hate it.  I was going to make a thread about it when they were trialing it, but found myself just getting annoyed at the world while typing about it.

It's a website I used multiple times per day and now I barely use it 3 times a week.  The main page feels like it's splayed out all over the place and shoves products and services in my face that I don't want.  The auction pages are tolerable but only just.

It's better than the old one, which always struck me as Amateur Hour personified - it looked like a student had done it in his bedsit in 1992.

I still think the logo is particularly infantile and needs severe modernisation.

Also I wish it would default to the list view not the tile view, which I do not personally find helpful.

All in all, it looks like the Ebay wannabe it is.

Over all, it sucks.

It is very different from the look and feel of the rest of the TM site.
The font used is way too large.
You can't even see bidder's full usernames (or their feedback at all now). This is progress?

I can't say that I like it overall because I'm a fan of the old design which I much preferred to eBay and eBay-like sites. But it is a lot better than some of the earlier incarnations which had much worse appearance and workflow.

It must be at least a year since they started trialing a new design so they must have got a lot of feedback. I remember giving them feedback about the shipping details being on a separate tab and I notice that they are now restored to the main listing. I'd still like to see them closer to the auction price because the actual price to me = auction price + shipping price.

I also prefer list view which is much easier to scan.

I like more relevant information. That's why I don't like that it doesn't tell me how many unanswered questions there are. That number when it gets large enough has saved me from dealing with a number of cowboys and thieves.

It is just a redesigned listing page and not a redesign of the entire site so it will look different.

You make a good point about not being able to read long user names in the bid history - it is an extra click to see the full name and then a backspace to get back to the listing. I would prefer to see at least a few of the latest bids because that helps me to understand what is happening with the auction.

I like the higher resolution photos and therefore higher magnification but it is a bit disconcerting because the image now obscures the listing details even on a FullHD screen. This makes it almost impossible to easily check text in the photo against text details in the listing, e.g. to confirm technical specs.

I hardly noticed it.
It could be better I suppose, but it's TM.

I just want them to implement the following features:

1. If a question has the words "is there a buy now" or "will you swap for" it blacklists the user automatically.
2. If the previous feature is triggered, for an extra $10 you can have a turd in a box mailed the to person asking the question.

Team "punch people who ask for a buy now"!

Don't like it, also got lost, also complained, not too worried because with all the other alternatives now out there I hardly use Trade Me any more.

They have had the layout for months, at least in certain parts of the site, although I think I was a beta user of it. It is more ebay like. I find it ok, they haven't rolled it in parts that really need updating such as the property part. TBH, I mainly use the iphone app as it is more functional than the website, and you can see all the product images in the listings, unlike the website.
