Hey all,

I was listening to the radio on the way home the other day and heard about a site called shunt.co.nz - they offer the service of being able to pick a courier for parcel pickups and print the ticket yourself, but over multiple courier companies, a bit like pricespy, so you can choose the quickest/fastest/etc.  I have used it a few times for trademe sales, and it is easier than going to the Post Office before they close.  But you don't have the ability to choose pick up times.

I have had a few emails from them when couriers are not going to get there until the next day, so it seems they keep and eye on things.  Plus the site seems to work well on my iPad, which is a bonus.

Anyone else used it?

I also told the person emailing me to come onto geekzone and tell people to use the site for give feedback, but that geekzone users are picky so be prepared for lots of comments and suggestions about the site, and not all will be kind!  They welcomed the idea and the ability to get feedback.

mods - what is the best forum for this kind of discussion?

My experience with their service so far seems quite positive.

It was quite simple to get multiple quotes from their website for your consideration without making any phone call, waiting to hear back and rushing into a local courier office.

Though timing can be the only tricky part if you are waiting for pick up.

I just tried adding details of parcels I have sent in recent weeks
Even though I am sending between the islands, in every single instance the New Zealand Post option was only giving me a same island option (so way cheaper than actual real price)
All the other options were between islands and it was good to see a rough cost comparison

Hi nzkiwiman,

I'm one of the founders of shunt.co.nz (the non-technical one).

Are you able to let me know which city or suburb that you are sending from?
Each suburb gets set up manually and it sounds like the wrong NZ Post template has been used for where you live.

Thanks heaps for that feedback.

Yesterday I got a sad notice from Shunt:

Dear Customer

The company directors met yesterday and decided that effective immediately Shunt will cease trading.

Although we have just received excellent new rates from both Courier Post, Fastway and NZ Post International that would have seen user costs in most cases literally cut in half, we have decided that due to low customer loyalty and low margins that the business will cease trading with the public.

Those of you who hold a positive account balance with Shunt will have all funds paid back to your credit card in full in the next day or two.

All tickets purchased can still be used as normal and will be picked up and delivered on time and in good condition as usual.

Kind Regards

Shunt

I've used their service for a dozen times and really enjoyed the convenience they offered, plus the donation they made to schools. It's sad to see them leaving the market.

Such a shame as their service was awesome, just needed to publicise themselves more

I didn't even know they existed until I found this thread. The owners deserve credit for winding up the business in an orderly manner. Instead of doing a DSE.

BUT ... It's a lot easier to wind up a business if you don't have a chain of stores half-full of second-rate overpriced merchandise.

First I have heard of them too.

I;ve given up on trademe as a sales venue for new items, but I can see something like this would be handy for the odd times you have to use a different courier company to normal due to rural areas or people needing things to go to a PO Box.
