Hi All,

Just wondering if there is a way on my Go Daddy hosting to create/see the website, before actually pointing my domain name to it.

I note under the  'Hosting Control Center' I have:

Server IP Address:
20*.*09.1*1.1*0

That doesn't seem to show anything though... apart from a 'forbidden' page.

I've installed Wordpress so if this IP was so I could see the page, before making it live, then I would expect to see the default Wordpress theme etc.

Just wanting to move a website over to Go Daddy, and check that it's actually working before I point my domain name to it.

Cheers,
Grant

if you have purchased a static IP address and it is assigned to one of the hosting plan, then you should be able to get to it via IP address. IIRC, GoDaddy may have offered a promotion for new domain and hosting customer (one time only) to include a static IP to hosting plan. I may be wrong with that. However, the IP address lease is pretty cheap and it is good to have a static IP address for that JIC moment.

Sadly, looks like I missed that promotion...

Dedicated Hosting IP Just $2.99/mo!
(2 month minimum purchase)

I see what's happening now.. theres probably other sites on that IP and the system simply doesn't know what I'm trying to load via the web browser. :)

I may just have to wait until my other support ticket is answered.. appears any emails going in get bounced back with 'relaying not allowed'.  I've tried Clear, Paradise and Gmail and all bounce back with that message. Frustrating!

Cheers,
Grant

I have an unused domain that I could point at the nameservers for a bit if required.

Email me: first dot last at gen-i.co.nz

Could you not setup a temporary sub-domain and use that until you're ready to go live? Something like http://test.mydomain.co.nz

Ok, just took the plunge...and pointed to it..

Looks like the new site is already live overseas (though my domain is hosted through Orcon).

Yet, surfing here its still the old site.. man it's slow :)

Anyone know of a safe/reliable proxy that I can use to fix my site without waiting for dns to update over here?

Cheers,
Grant

DNS servers don't take that long to change, by the time you find a solution, the local DNS servers would have already changed.

If it's really urgent, could you just use a DNS server that already has your site's new IP address in it?

Na I changed it at around 7pm.. still no change over here.

*edit*  Have fixed up a bit by using a free proxy.. posts are now showing anyway, just an ugly theme for the time being.

Thanks for your help :)

Odd about the email.. ah well.. thanks for the offer of assistance :)

Seems to be all working now, and a tracert shows the new path to my website. Abeit a few tidying up things to do when I get home tonight (email isn't working), Other than that 99% of the site  is working fine.

Cheers,
Grant
