Hi.

I am considering the purchase of a Note 5 from Expert Infotech who have the cheapest price from a "reputable" source.

I presume it's parallel imported, but I wondered if anyone had experience with claiming warranty with them on decent smartphones? Were repairs undertaken in NZ or sent overseas? Average turn around? Communication?

Feedback appreciated.

THey are generally the cheapest yes. I havent dealt with them for a couple of years, but last time i dealt with them, they used to send the phone overseas for repairs (yes they are parallel imported). I think turn around was about a month to 6 weeks). I dont know if they have improved since. I started paying a couple hundred more but getting nz new because of far better support.

I recall a few years ago there being some friction around them delivering phones direct from overseas and under valuing them to arrive GST less and some people getting stung during delivery. Things change however, and I suspect that wouldn't have been able to continue.

Well that was quickly clarified.

Repairs are done overseas. 1-4 Weeks (Read 2-8 weeks).

Now to find a NZ retailer who can do me a good deal!

What are the chances waiting till Boxing day will be worthwhile?

After my experience with them I'd avoid them like the plague.

I always shop NZ retailers for electrical/gadgets. You might save a little with parallel imports, but what a hassle if you need warranty service ...

And if a parallel importer goes bust - which is quite likely - then you have no warranty coverage at all. At least if you buy through the proper channels then you have the retailer as a first port of call, and then you have the distributor to fall back onto.

Another vote from me to avoid Expert Infotech after a faulty phone was denied coverage under warranty when it should have been.

Customer service there involves being shouted at when you dare to complain.
