Has anyone else had dodgy goings with Noel Leemings price match when trying to match an offer?

It seems that eveytime i have gone in, it is not as easy as "yup we can match that"

I have read their T&Cs which is posted below (posted from their site)

1. The purchase must take place within 7 days of the lower price having been advertised.
2. Product must be the same make and model, including being a new-boxed product.
3. Price Promise does not apply to any product(s) redeemed from Noel Leeming in (or in partial) satisfaction of an insurance claim or third party redemption scheme.
4. Standard Fly Buys points apply.
5. Price Promise applies only to regular, in-stock product offered for sale from a New Zealand retail home appliance dealer. Excludes trade quotes, stock liquidations and commercial quantities and parallel imported products. All New Zealand retailer website product offers will be considered where the product is the same.
6. Price Promise does not include typographical errors.
7. Price Promise cannot be used in conjunction with any additional Noel Leeming product offers such as bonus product.
8. To be eligible for our Price Promise, you must present either an advertisement or an authorised quote card from an eligible competitor in order for us to fulfill the promise. Price Promise applies where the other store's final price, inclusive of delivery, taxes, fees and charges, is lower than our price.
9. The Noel Leeming Store reserves the right to verify the evidence of the identical product sold at a lower price.
10. If your claim qualifies for the Price Promise, the Noel Leeming store will match the price and give you Standard Fly Buys.
11. The Price Promise may be terminated or amended at any time without notice and is subject to Noel Leeming stores usual terms and conditions of trade.
12. The information you provide the Noel Leeming store will only be used to provide the Price Promise to you or to discuss with you your Price Promise claim.

Even meeting that criteria they try to avoid it.

I have found they will use the terms to get out of the sale if they will make a loss. Very little chance of getting them to price match Boxing Day deals, as they claim that they are limited quantity, as it tried last year, even though the advert I had didn't say it was limited. Exactly why I think these sorts of things should be banned, as they are not good for the consumer in a number of ways.

Nobody wants to make a loss.
If another retailer has a big discount on an item it's because they are getting kickbacks from their supplier in a one of handshake deal for selling over X numbers.

But then nobody is forcing them to advertise a price match.

Whakatane NL wouldn't match Hamilton JB earlier this week on a Sony 48" TV. I wasn't aware of the price match promise, so didn't push it.

I have had no problems at all with NL Price Matching, mind you I live in Auckland where there is competition and I can just go down the road to a competitor and they know that.

I have bought Cellphones, TV, Microwave, Refrigerator.

I know others have also bought goods from NL and they have price matched, no problem, again in Auckland.

I suspect that they wont Price Match if the competition is too far away.

The other good thing is they will exchange goods if not suitable and in original condition, I did it with a cellphone just recently.

Overall I find NL great

I got price match on a galaxy s5 in there a month ago, noel leeming in wairau in auckland. It is across the road for JB who had the phone online that day for 70$ less...they were happy to price match the second I asked for it (after they checked it out on the jb website themselves). Did the price match so I could use ASB true rewards in store to pay (which you cant in JB)

No problem getting price matched here in Auckland.

Warehouse stationery used to be my favorite until noel leeming starts advertising the price match.

I've never really had issues, except the one time but that was because the rep wasn't aware of the terms and he was new.

Got a price match on a Nespresso coffee machine last month (Lattissima Plus), JB was selling it $200 less, NL matched it no issue. It's an older model but it'll end up being $250 with cash back offer so that was a good deal altogether

Never had any problems myself provided it is a price from a normal NZ retailer. As per their T&C they refuse to price match against parallel imported products, tried a couple of times without success.

A few years ago, but the question they ask me was does the other retailer have it in stock?

How am I suppose to know that until I get to counter at other retailer, there was a long line.

So I just said yes.

Next thing was Noel Leemings then said that that it wasn't in stock for themselves, I pointed out there was one on the shelf, and they said that was for display only. I brought stuff off the display shelf before.

I went back to other retailer, lined up, and did actually end up getting what I was after at lower price. I think Noel Leemings only price match when it suits them to.

Yes it certainly isn't as simple as the times I have done it at places like John Lewis, who have always matched anyone's price regardless of if it was in the sale after they have made a call to check the price is bona fide.

It's a bit like returns and warranties - never as easy as companies like Snap On who apologise and replace instantly on the spot.

Only problem now is that most stores have a policy of not giving out their 'best' price over the phone, some also refuse to issue any sort of written quote to avoid people running back and forth to get the lowest bidder.  If it's not on-line or advertised NL just aren't interested.

If I was a competitor, I wouldn't write my price on a business card either!
I know you could always get a quote on the POS sale system from Smiths City, those guys were suckers... apparently they handed them out to stop their own colleagues stealing their own sales! Of course, most customers took them and used them for price-matching!

Warehouse stationary is far better, as they will beat the price by 5%. The problem though is you have to jump through hoops to prove that the store has stock. But the store should do this legwork.

They reap what they sow. If they want to play with the big boys and advertise these sorts of promotions, then they have to accept that at some stage competitors are going to be able to buy from suppliers for a lot less, or get big rebates.
