Long story short, I resigned from my job but I'm now in a need of a job as I'd prefer not having to dip into the reserves I have available.

Anyone got a good suggestion for at least jobs that are a good way to get cash flowing in and then maybe look for better alternatives elsewhere?

I'm going to give the recruitment companies for labouring jobs but I thought I might as well put my feelers out there to see whether anyone on the forum has a good suggestion.

My background is in retail and the quick food service although I have experience as a system admin in terms of OS X and Windows although I am a bit rusty at the server side of Windows given that it has been almost a decade since I last used Active Directory. I've applied for 4-5 jobs through Seek/TradeMe but I want to ensure that I am trying all avenues at this point.

I'm located in Wellington unfortunately travel outside of Wellington is out of the question.

Most retail and food service are busy this time of year. The larger enterprises have longer hiring processes often but mid and smaller can be more flexible. Maybe pick something you want to do in that area and ask around. Imo you will not be asking long.

I would say tho pick something interesting because they might want you to stick around and you might be doing it for a while.

But maybe look at the stuff you really want to do anyway and head in that direction.

Try supermakets - often have nightfill jobs that they don't advertise.
Also Mitre 10 or Bunnings for similar jobs.
Hours are often 10pm to 3am or the like - but would hold you over while you are looking.

I know PB Tech in Wellington are hiring and need somebody passionate (if you've ever shopped there you know sales people don't really give a damn). The store owner is quite difficult to get ahold of though.

My teenage stepson got nowhere with sending in CVs/applying online - walked in to a job at maccas by asking the manager. Unfortunately atm you may be competing with the unwashed student hordes currently on their 3-4 month holidays.

You need to make it easy if you want to be hired, especially for low tier jobs. I would suggest presenting, politely and professionally, in person to the manager.

Yeah this is the thing. Most of the important conversation can be had in two minutes. Compare that to even beginning to process a CV for relevant information..

Unfortunately atm you may be competing with the unwashed student hordes currently on their 3-4 month holidays.

Don't worry about that. Zero experience and work ethic in development is not suitable for all positions...
