Can anyone check the top rated vacuum cleaners for me?

I'm ideally after a Miele, Noel Leeming have a C3 Powerline on sale for $423 ending today
Do I take the next step and get the Cat and Dog? (We don't have an issue with pet hair, but is it better...)
We also have wooden floors

Their top rated "standard vacuums" (as opposed to handheld or stick vacuums which they split into separate sections) seem to be:

Sebo - Airbelt K3 Premium - 88%

Miele - S771 - 83%

Miele - S8 Cat & Dog S8320 - 83%

Electrolux - Ultraone Deluxe ZUO9923PT - 83%

Miele - S8790 Premium Total Care - 82%

Nilfisk - Elite Comfort 107402946 - 82%

We chose a Nilfisk a few years ago based on consumer and other reviews and have been very happy with it - it's still going strong.

The Miele "S8 Cat & dog" one above actually has a slightly reduced "carpet cleaning" score than the Miele S771, so I'm not sure going for a Miele "pet hair" vacuum is really worth it unless you have a pet hair problem.

If you have any allergy\hay fever issues also note that only the 3rd Miele on that list has HEPA filters - most of the others do, but the first 2 Miele's don't; this was actually another reason we chose a Nilfisk at the time.

Look at a Henry/Hetty. They look like cute toys, but they're super super high quality, very effective. All my old vacuum cleaners were chucked partly because the cord auto wind failed - this one is manual, so it won't fail, and it's easier than trying to get an auto one working. They're a bit more expensive than average, but bags are huge and last ages, the thing will last a really long time. Maybe you can find a better price somewhere, I just did a quick Google - my wife bought hers with her from the UK she liked it so much. Bit cheaper here.

Those Shark Navigator lift-aways you see on TV are actually pretty decent and review well.

We have a Hoover Mode we got a year ago with a power head that is awesome.

If you ONLY have wooden floors you don't need to worry about pet hair ones I believe.

You can always go to a Godfreys and ask - the sales people there were quite nice and not too pushy.

Most ads show stuff being sucked up like: marbles, garden dirt, etc.
They never show pet hair, cotton or fluff being sucked up off a mat. That's my test.

Had Electrolux, Dyson. Friend has a Shark.
It's not bad - but it fails the mat test.

I now have a Miele cat and Dog. best vacuum ever, it gets that stuck stuff up.
Admittedly the turbpo brush is one of it's reasons...but even without it, I'd buy Miele again.
It was also the most expensive one I have bought it, but well worth it.

I purchased a Nilfisk Bravo for less than $200 a while back, they are $299 on the Noel Leeming site now :/

Sucks up Husky fur out of the carpet pretty easily, a special pet head might help but still does a great job.
Great vacuum cleaner and would recommend for price and performance. (if you can grab it on special)

Love our 10 year old Dyson DC series vacuum cleaner. Just replaced the two micro filters for the first time. We have two Turkish Van cats that have a double coat and shed fur 24/7. The Dyson ordinary turbo head did a fair job at picking it all up with a bit of work BUT when looking at the NZ site for the replacement filters came across their new tool "Tangle-free Turbine tool". Yea it was $90 + $10 postage BUT what a great tool. It cleaned up all our pet fur off blankets, throw rugs and duvet's in a jiffy. No hard work and did not tangle up in the device head. Well worth it. Next day delivery by the way from Auckland.

Note: when I was looking to replace the filters I went around all the usual sellers of Dyson in Tauranga and they all stated they do not stock or display accessories or spare parts but they will order them in for you. I could not even find in store posters or brochures listings accessories, very poor I thought. In Aussie, where we bought our Dyson, the stores all have accessory stands for Dyson.

I have a Miele and I absolutely love it. They are a bagged vacuum - whether that bother you. I think at is an advantage. $423 seems a pretty good price for Miele too. I think I paid $700 ish for mine.

I don't really trust Consumer that much myself. They once gave a white fridge and a stainless fridge completely different ratings, despite the only difference being the paint job.

Emptying the dysons is an aweful experiance, and they dont hold much before the grot is up to the max line as it all just spreads around the outside of the bucket rather than filling it up evenly. I wouldnt do it again, and would stick to ones with nice clean self closing disposable bags.

My Nilfisk Action Plus is average to good, consumer rated it quite highly. The Henry/Hetty is a lot better though.

Sis in law has one, wife wanted one, SIL lent us her one, i thought great this will naturally kill the interest a it will turn out to be sh1te but have to say it actually works so damn well we had to buy one and 3 odd yrs on it still is as good as it was when we bought it. well worth consideration believe it or not

Don't be swayed by what anyone is saying :) Miele vacuums are fantastic, I got a second hand one 5 years ago (basic model) and love it and will look to replace with the C3 if it breaks or I decide the better air filtration would be beneficial.

We bought a Miele Cat & Dog to replace our Dyson after it failed.
The biggest issue I had with the Dyson was emptying it. In our first house, we had a rubbish bin by the back door - so it was fine.
The next home the bins were located inside and try as I might, everytime I emptied it, the dust in the bag would billow out of the unit, into the house.

The Miele has gone strong for 6 years now, with 3 cats and a LOT of black furniture (white fluffy cat that likes to shed) - it handles it all.
Don't worry about Hepa filters as you can buy different filter versions in stores.

Re: Godfrey's.
Once I learned how they worked, I ran a mile.
They have cheap Hoovers that they bring to market, then they whack a massive margin on them and sell them for a fortune.
There are all sorts of tricks employed - they push hard to sell attachment heads, the guy I knew who worked there was on a scheme that relied incredibly heavily on his attachment of expensive (for you, the consumer) add ones.

No one here has mentioned Sebo. All the commercial cleaners in my last few jobs have used them, they're absolutely brilliant, very light to vacuum with and do a great job, but they cost a bundle.
The quietest bagless model I ever tried was a Bosch - very nice machine. I don't know the model number though?
