I guess they saw how well the axing of Campbell Live went, and how well Story is rating, and decided to do something similar to 3News? ;-)

TV3 it's been grounded on the sandbar for years but just seems to survive.

I expect they prefer to call it re-branding.  Something the audience can identify with, make people feel excited,..., blah, blah, blah.

Did the NZ Herald not read the news in October when they announced the rebranding?

The amount of trolls on stuff and NZH saying this is the end of TV3 is the real story here!

I expect Newshub is just a new name for 3News and *Maybe* the studio will resemble the one that Paul Henry uses but thats it.

I will still listen when Im on my way home and watch it when I get home...

They discovered that news means reporting events of greater magnitude than cats up trees or what someone said on Twitter so decided to stop calling their program news?

Why do NZ TV news programs at 6.00  still need "Tweedledum and Tweedledee' to present the news??  Most overseas main network news is 30 minutes with one presenter..

One of Google's definitions states a hub as:

"the effective centre of an activity, region, or network"

I guess all news now revolves around TV3.

Why do we need so many given that the internet exits, and TV has many 24 hour news channels?

Not really. Mediaworks have combined their radio news room and tv news room into one newsroom that services tv, radio and digital platform news. A hub, if you will, servicing spokes of delivery mediums.

I don't think I have watched tv3 this year. Used to watch Campbell live, but their channel has become more and more dumbed down over recent years

Yes most overseas countries have a 30 minute news program - which includes National/International and Sport.

Usually around 50% Local&National/40% International and 10% sports - 60 seconds for the weather.

Our weather slot goes on so long I often miss it because I glaze over.....

On one hand its a good thing we know what is happening in the rest of the world, but sometimes I think this cheap 'padding' that we have to watch just starts messing with peoples heads.

I gather a little while back both channels were seriously considering trying to reach a mutual agreement to have a 30m main bulletin to reduce their costs but they are nervous of each other and no one wanted to go first.

There is an interesting link here http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/culture/tv-history/news on how things have changed.

Never mind voting on the flag....

TV News proposal

  • 30 minutes 'Main news' including sports and weather
  • 20 minutes of local/regional content
