SOFIA made several visits in the last few years to observe the sky. This is not the first time it's been to Christchurch.

Nice photo. Seems to be a B747 SP like the ones Qantas used to fly into Wellington.

Christchurch airport has a display about the NASA SOFIA project in the upstairs domestic terminal area between the regional planes end and food court area.
