Hi.

I am considering changing my shoes. I have traditionally worn sneakers (asics and the like) with my Light and Dark Blue Jeans (Levi 501's almost invariably). I have felt for a while that perhaps sneakers were less appropriate as I get a little older, largely because I no longer wear as many T-Shirts, and tend to wear Polo's and proper button up shirts. I tend to lean toward presentable when I go out (You'll probably never see me in track pants outside the house).

I was trying to decide on what shoes to buy and what colours? Doc Martins in Black or similar tend to dress up and down pretty well, so that's a safe option, but I am very very flat flooted, and find them uncomfortable for long days walking. I like boots for the ankle support and did wonder about a pair of brown casual boots, but I was hoping for some advice perhaps.

I know that shiny shoes don't tend to dress "down" too much, and matt shoes tend to not as easily dress "up".

I don't have a budget specifically, but $150-200 seems hopefully reasonable.

I've got a couple of pairs of Casual Skechers. They are comfortable, and so far, last me well. I'm the same as you, wear jeans (501s) everyday to work, but don't want to wear trainers.

The skechers I have aren't on their site anymore. I got one pair at the Queen St store, on special for about $89, and liked them so much I bought another pair (different colour) from Amazon. According to my Amazon history they are called Skechers USA Men's Expected Avillo Relaxed-Fit Slip-On Loafer. $56US

Yeah they look ok as well, though I always thought those were to be worn with shorts.

I own a pair of these which are AMAZING, but I wear them ONLY with shorts in the summer, with a pair of invisi socks.

Do you wear socks with them?

Yep, just normal gold-tops. I would wear them with invisi-socks with shorts in summer, but in summer I tend to wear Jandals, or go barefoot.

Loafer.

wink

Sketchers are mighty comfortable.

I buy Hush Puppies for work, because they're soft and feature a wide fit option.  Not particularly social looking though, but I might check out some of their less formal options next time I'm in the shop to see what they offer.

I picked up some of these a few weeks ago after wearing a similar pair of Sketchers for a couple of years: http://www.hushpuppies.co.nz/product/momentum?p=MCL2881

I don't really get the same vibe looking at them online but they are quite versatile in terms of where they are appropriate. Nice and sturdy, I really like mine.

I would look at Merrell's Lifestyle or perhaps Hiking/Boot range. The Freewheels and All Out Blazers are a nice compromise between styles I find. Very comfortable as well, I use them with prescribed moulded orthotics.

I've had a pair of those, and they were really comfy.

They didn't last as long as the Skechers I have now have though.

I need the Wide/big fit (14US), and find Hush Puppies, and Skechers are good for both.
