WTF?

Sorry.

I bought a house when I was 18 with me mate. Sold it as we were immature, but the rent money was great.

Bought another at 23, and another this year, that cost a bunch, and not in AKL

And I as a baby boomer are to blame? I placed a large deposit on first house, 40% cash, an old place in two flats, and on first home that we lived in.

Current place is freehold. So why are baby boomers to blame?

Perhaps I should have not bought, thereby not to blame. probably a click bait at Stuff

They are the ones that attend all the council meetings, full of grey hair opinions that have many times in the past being very dismissive when youth have turned up with differing opinions.

They are the ones that form ratepayers associations to oppose changes that would affect their property values like the sky path.

They are the ones that have all their investment money in property so will oppose anything that will affect that even if it delivers a more livable city.

They do not want to live in an apartment so think noone should have that choice.

They think that any new development should be at the edge of the city where people will have an epic commute, rather than intensification of the inner suburbs where they are worried about crap like "character houses" and similar. Look at the hassle that any development in ponsonby/herne bay has to deal with.

So yes, a lot of the problem is them, as they have the free time and resources to appear to be a louder voice than they really are, while the people that need the change to the city are too busy working.

Don't forget that they are generally the ones in charge at the moment...

Thats rubbish. Your labelling a timeframe of humans as a cause for todays issues. Take the housing issues, so hard to buy a house, so all these baby boomers are in conspiracy to make it that difficult? The Govt runs this country, if they wish to allow house prices to go from 3 times salary to what ever it is now, the boomers are just consumers/buyers, its the Govt that needs to answer the question why? Clearly they haven't.

This is just another case of age abuse and no different to any other form of bigotry.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Did I mention about Boomers being the ones in charge?

Thats by default. Its typical that older probe, tend to be in charge, whether thats now or 300 years ago, its no different. (waiting for someone to quote a 16yo in charge hundreds of years ago)

So everyone born in the baby boomer range is part of a conspiracy? Seems more like an excuse to me. Take now, take 100 years ago, take 100 years in the future, off cause the older ones will often be in power due to experience. CEO;s trend to be older, PM's tend to be older, and so on.

MikeB4: This is just another case of age abuse and no different to any other form of bigotry.

Exactly.

We could pass a law that only young'uns can hold senior positions. Sound stupid? It is. Thats the opposite of the baby boomer argument.

So, its merely a case of blame. Baby boomers did their thing, with no control over this country, now they find they are the cause? LOL, that is ridiculous.

Sorry, I didn't see your earlier post. Typically, the older the wiser, so typically the CEO's etc are older. For that age range, labelled baby boomers, they are now found to be at fault? If you took the population of baby boomers, weedled out those with political clout, thats a large number of 'the masses" left, who have no control. hat about in 20 years, 40 years, 60 years, who will be blamed then?

Baby boomers voted the neo-liberal policies that have - generally - transferred wealth upward to the few. At the same time they cut the programs they (baby boomers) had benefited from and gave themselves tax cuts. But they voted for industrial and employment polices that weakened unions, flattened wages for the past 10-15 years and reduced job security for most workers.

At the same time they also voted for polices that sees tertiary students mired in debt for most of their 20s and into their 30s....at the same time they are trying to start a family and save for a house. It was always obviously complete madness. We only live so long...and mired in debt for 10-15 years of it while young and starting out was never going to be good. Meanwhile, the baby boomers got degrees for $129 / year, plus books. I know this first hand.

OK...not all baby boomers vote(d) for these crap policies.....and not all people who voted for this rubbish were baby boomers, either.

But it fits, near enough. Who is voting for National now? Whoever they are, they ARE voting for more of them same. They are the ones to blame...and will continue to be the ones to blame if National wins in 2017.

Nothing's changed. Bitched and moaned about the "old gits" 30 years ago ..... woke up and decided to take responsibility for myself. It really is quite simple really. If I win, I win. If I fail, I only have myself to blame. End of.
