I get a lot of scam emails from Africa, but this one was so bad it made me laugh

An email I got from "Barack Obama". With plenty of animated American flags, because, you know, nothing says "official" like animated GIFs.

------------------------------------------

Attention,

Behold, you are reading a letter from your President Barack Obama. Finally, I have received large list of names of people that are involved into unfinished transaction in which your name was among of the said list submitted to my office by Cyber Crimes Commission (CCC), who hasn't receive their compensation payment of $890,000.

Hence it has been officially confirmed by Ghana government, presided by the Ghana President(John Dramani Mahama) that the said fund actually belongs to you and the law demands that it would be officially released to you as soon as you contact the authorized paying bank with your claim application letter.

Contact the bank as soon as you receive this message.

Zenith Bank(GH)Limited

Contact Person:Henry ********** (MD/CEO)

Email: ***********@mail2zenith.com

From the desk of the President:

To be honest I ma a little disappoint in POTUS's grammar.  He certainly doesn't write as eloquently as he speaks.

Almost as good as one I saw on TV where some chap in NZ had a call from "the inland revenue" for back tax he owed to the tune of $8000 for which he was "going to be arrested today" and 'the inland revenue' made him go and buy iTunes cards to the value of $8000 and read them the numbers over the phone.

Because the IRD always collect taxes in the form of iTunes credit......

This one is like I won lotto (pretty sure there is a number of people out there with the last name "Murphy"):

To whom it may concern:

I am getting in touch with you regarding the estate of a deceased client with same last name as yours with an investment placed under our banks management 6 years ago. I want you to act as the next of kin to the deposit since you have the same last name as his.

I would appreciate your swift response if this is something you can do.

Regards,

Martin

I had one recently that basically said right at the start, "This is a scam" - I thought "how nice of them to confirm it" - was no real attempt to get anything out of me or any attachment to try and infect me with anything.

Theyre getting lazy, maybe time for a new job........

I was phoned recently by the New Zealand Government. Our special Prime Minister John Key (his words) had selected 1,500 people that had been good citizens and paid their taxes and I was to receive a payment from the New Zealand Government.

I started giggling as the gentleman with a foreign accent was spinning a very good story. Unfortunately he realized I was on to him and let out a string of expletives before hanging up.

I was a little disappointed as I really wanted to know where he was going with the scam....

Cheers, Matt.

$8000 in iTunes to pay tax? iDon't think so

Nearly 2,000 people have contacted Inland Revenue about this scam over a twelve-day period.
