That's a stroke of absolute genius / political appointment.  Ian Simpson can now use his demonstrated skill with data selection / revision and writing "creative" reports and press releases - to convince the Minister and the NZ public that the Canterbury Earthquakes never really happened.

"Seismic" shift perhaps.

I feel extremely sorry for the good scientists at GNS.

GNS science contributes to earthquake risk assessment among many other things.

This is a critical function for many different processes.

Many have already questioned Mr Simpson's commitment to maintaining the values of public service, this appointment will be further cause for concern.

Indeed - and there's potential for conflict of interest there.

Just my opinion of course, I don't believe that Ian Simpson is an honest person - in a "whole truth and nothing but the truth" kind of way.

As a result I don't like him - in a "green eggs and ham" kind of a way.

Poor GNS - what did they do to deserve him?
