Just got my new AA Card which includes Countdown's onecard system

Based on their letter it is quite clear that data has been shared between AA and Countdown which I don't recollect agreeing to.

Has anyone else looked into this or been contacted to provide agreement that data could be shared between SmartFuel and OneCard?

Must be the time of year - I got one from New World with Airpoints last week which I do not recall being asked about but I expect there's some obscure clause in something somewhere that allows it.

I never use the SmartFuel thing because all our fuel is business expenses so it goes on the Fuel Cards and you cannot use Fuel Cards and AA Smartfuel together.

I don't have the letter in front of me, but I think it says something like this:

As per our terms, we will share your information with countdown when you first use your card at a countdown supermarket.

I called Countdown on the weekend as my Wife had received her new OneCard (from Countdown) and our flatmate received his (linked to ours so point he earns go to the 'house' rewards balance) but I didn't get mine. In the same post, however, I got my new AA card (with OneCard logo on it and a OneCard number).

The reason for my call was to ask what I had to do to link the OneCard number on my AA card to the 'Family' OneCard rewards. The CSR just said that the first time I swipe the AA card at Countdown, they will match my details and my old OneCard number (in the dashboard on the Countdown website) will be updated to reflect the new AA OneCard number.

To me, that seems some pretty flash data matching, but they must have done it and have it working, as I did not receive a new OneCard from Countdown (so they must have known I was going to get one from AA). I will go to a Countdown today to get my lunch and swipe it. Hopefully it works (matches to our account).

We have chosen to continue getting the OneCard vouchers.

On another note - this scheme seems to me as if Countdown are 'cheaping out' on their rewards. Previously you could get fuel vouchers (everything over $40 got a fuel voucher, some weekends you got 20-30c) and collect OneCard rewards. Now, it is one or the other...

This is what it says. My new card came from AA as a replacement AA card. I take that using the card will then allow them to share data.

Now looking at the Smartfuel terms and conditions I can see this

In accordance with the AA Smartfuel programme terms and conditions, your details will be automatically sent to Countdown the first time you make a selection above. This will enable Countdown to activate your new Onecard.

Yet based on the letter from the AA with my new card it appears that my information has already been shared with Countdown. Has anyone else notes this.

My letter states

Your new card is set to earn Onecard reward vouchers at Countdown (1)

[1] This is because you've received Onecard rewards vouchers from Countdown in the last year

I haven't activated my new card yet - but it appears that my data has already been shared without my consent.

Yeah I was unsure about this.  While I understand my new AA card is now a onecard, what it not clear is if that was a blanket move, or if it was done for those that already had a one card, and/or if so, are they linked back somehow to that old one card.

It is a newone card number that you can get linked back to your existing OneCard account once it is activated. First use is sufficient to activate it.

It's a blanket move. I received one odd these combined cards, but have never had a onecard.

I've never had a OneCard. I did use my Air NZ card to collect AirPoints where possible, and the AA card to get a few cents a litre off petrol. But I don't appreciate the data sharing so I won't be using either the new Countdown/AirPoints card they sent me or the Countdown/AA fuel card thing. I don't think I'll even notice the extensive savings I'll be missing out on.

Slightly off-topic, but I got a letter the other days offering me renters' insurance.  I'm not renter but for some reason AMI think I am.  I've never been an AMI customer either.

These loyality cards and programs seem to have gone rampant. I would rather they got rid of them, and just reduced prices, rather than giving discounts to those customers who want to share their shopping habits. You don't know who is getting that info. insurers could use it for health insurance, and see that you buy lots of softdrinks and icecream, so increase your premiums.it is very big brother stuff and the info is very valuable. I wouldn't be surprised if we see minority report type billboards soon in stores, that offer you personalised advertising when they see you on screens. The technology is now there to do this, as they have the info with these cards, so they know what you have been buying . You already get this info emailed to you in 'weekly specials just for you'.

Can confirm that.

Just used my AA One Card, and logging into my Countdown Dashboard can see it there under 'Family' cards. It replaced my old OneCard which is now useless.

Just say you forgot your card and they'll swipe one for you at New World or Countdown to give you the discounts.

Fuel pricing is now being inflated to compensate for discounting, and the AA are largely responsible for this all while Mark Stockdale from AA fronts to the media every few days complaining about it. Fuel discounting should be restricted to 4cpl like it in in Australia, and ACCC got sick of the skewed market in Aussie caused by discounting and it got nowhere near as bad as NZ is right now.

I've had push back from several Countdown stores recently where I've forgotten my card. They now need to pull the supervisor in to provide a card and approve the process.
