I need to get hold of a LIR2032 Rechargeable coin cell battery. Am in the Wellington CBD, where can I go?

Places I've already been to:

  • OfficeMAx
  • NewWorld
  • Noel Leeming

See if there are any of the solar keychain lights at your local $2 shop, they have one in them. Rare beasts tho.

There are the common CR2032 and the LiR2032

http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/other-electronics/electronic-components/other/auction-1188941295.htm

LIR Battery Chemistry
Unlike the other chemistries, the LIR chemisty has a voltage of 3.6V instead of 3V. This chemistry is rechargeable, however a protective circuit is absolutely necessary due to the very high energy density of this type of cell. LIR2032 batteries are frequently used in car security systems, memory backup batteries in electronic devices, electronic watches, and many other applications.

LIR Batteries:

  1. Have a voltage of 3.6V rather than 3V
  2. Have an extremely high energy density
  3. Are rechargeable, but require a protection circuit

Check out second hand/computer repair places. You might find one in an old motherboard?

Are you in Auckland region?

http://www.mrpositive.co.nz/lir2032-3-7v-75mah-rechargeable-li-ion-button-cell/

They allow pickup of "some" items from their HQ in Sylvia Park

Edit: Nope see you're in Wellington :/ sorry!  Awfully long drive.

Wellington CBD has not traditionally been considered part of the Auckland region.

Have you looked on TradeMe? I see one seller in Tauranga advertising them for $3.50. If you have them couriered and add a note asking for extra urgency you might have them within a couple days.

If you are really desperate try The Battery Cell on Petone Esplanade. Call first obviously.

Rechargeable 2032s are fairly specialised. It's unlikely you'll find them in a consumer store. Try RS or Element14.

Is that about size restrictions why you need 2032?

If in urgency and need 3.6V rechargable right here right now - just tear apart any laptop battery and you'll get 18650 cell (of course much bigger size than you need) as a temporary workaround :-)

I've just got one off eBay. I was going to get one off Trade Me but I resent paying more for delivery than the cost of the item.
