This would help reduce my dislike of supermarkets...

Most likely won't be here in NZ any time soon.

I very much dislike supermarkets now as well

The self service machines are awful if you have like 8 of the same product (like a box of 1.5L drinks).  You have to take each one out and scan it and put it on the scale.  Or if it freaks out on you and your standing there or having to run after a staff member to fix it.

Our local supermarket has just removed normally checkouts to put in a whole lot more of the self service ones :(

I also notice that there are no more 12 items or less manned checkouts in most supermarkets now :(

I wish there was a system like amazon go in NZ.

I believe Amazon have been eyeing up (or buying up) a whole lot of land in Australia to open up some physical presence there. I don't recall if they've talked about an Amazon Go store, but the article had a lot of worried Supermarket owners commenting on it and the risks it poses for them, so who knows, perhaps Au will get a Go store, too. Then it's not too ridiculous to think in another 10-15 years we'll get a similar expansion on our shores.

This is another issue I feel strongly about. As a matter of principle I refuse to use any self-service checkout. I feel like I am being asked to do someone else's job for free. If it matters to you, as it does to me, go stand in the queue at a human-operated checkout, and if there isn't any, go somewhere else. If people keep putting up with this kind of penny-pinching crap, it will only get worse. Another point worth mentioning is that it takes low-level jobs away from the local community. If a business cannot be bothered supporting the community it extracts its profits from, why should the community support the business? You have to draw a line somewhere and then you have to stand on your principles. If enough people do, things can be made to change.
