So the new line up has been announced, very predictable and safe I think. I see Judith looses police and corrections pretty sure she will be unhappy about that.

Whats your take on the line up

I feel a bit sorry for Louise getting corrections, because that portfolio is a poisoned chalice that was probably given to Sam on the basis that he was an MP that they could afford to sacrifice.

I wasn't expecting Paula to get police, but I think she will do okay with that. I'm pleased to see that Amy Adams is being recognised as someone with potential.

Nick Smith should have been a goner. He's an old mate of Bill's, but it could be costly keeping him. To date, I have not been able to find one member of the public that likes Nick Smith ... anyone?

I would agree on Nick Smith but it does look like he has been dropped down the ranks, I personally am not a fan of Simon Bridges either but that's my opinion.

It's possibly that too, Amy Adams needs to spend less time sitting in Parliament and more time getting her hands dirty laying that fibre. I'm assuming she's still Communications Minister but there was no mention of it in the press release I saw.

Sorry to see Paula Bennett keep Climate Change.

She's done nothing useful in the portfolio other than to follow the American Republican party line of "adaptation", which assumed that adapting while doing nothing is both viable in the long run and cheaper......and neither of those assumptions is likely to be valid.

On this issue alone, this government has to go......and I don't care if they are defecating gold bars and sending them as Xmas presents to everyone......doing nothing about climate change is a show-stopper.

I think their days are numbered anyway.

About Paula Bennett, isn't she still Minister of Cars and Garages?

I'm not sure that's accurate. I heard her on radio maybe zb somewhere around October saying the NZ government had ratified the Paris Agreement. That is somewhat positive. After your post I had to google to confirm:

http://i.stuff.co.nz/environment/climate-news/84985561/new-zealand-ratifies-paris-agreement-to-combat-climate-change

I do admit to thinking that our government like most around the world uses these agreements as green wallpaper that will be papered again with a new agreement when the current one is ineffectice and so on and so on.

Anyway, your comments caused me to google find that article and read it. ; ).

I see in there that Green Party co-leader Shaw said that emissions had increased 19% in the 8 year period of the current government. The article does not provide any further breakdown on that assertion, so I'll have to go look elsewhere for a breakdown and reasons for that one...

That's a bare minimum though and it's surprising we got that much from a Key govt that was in denial about CC. There needs to be much bigger action on climate change than the paris treaty.

Instead of making the most of the opportunity to move to green technologies and innovations, we get coal mines and dairy expansion. They've got their heads stuck in a commodities time warp.

Remember, this is a government who's early actions included removing the ban on energy inefficient light bulbs.

Surely emissions have decreased in that 8 year period as the govt have done it's best to kill manufacturing here.
