Thoughts on this article that just popped up?

http://www.tabletmag.com/scroll/221092/new-zealands-settler-problem

Some quotes to get your eyebrows raised:

the dark history that lies behind a small South Pacific nation’s passionate feelings about a property dispute in the Middle East.

New Zealanders are no strangers to settlements—or to the cavalier denial of the rights of an indigenous people in their historic homeland.

and

cancers easily preventable by decent medical care, which Maoris are denied by a public health policy that verges on the genocidal

I'm surprised they don't dig deeper and accuse NZ of the genocide of the Moriori, maybe the're saving that for Part 2.

I wonder what moral high ground the hard line Israelis think they're sitting on?

Maybe Israel is showing its true colours now?

Its proving that under the current Israel leadership peace will never be achieved....

I still find it overwhelming that a religious democracy can appear to be so unchristian.

The world is becoming a very scary place.

Peace will never be achieved when Israel's enemies all around her have said there will be no peace until Israel has been wiped off the face of the map.  All Arab maps do not have Israel.   Arabs living in Israel can vote and even run for government, they have full freedom.  No Israeli can have citizenship in any Arab nation. This settlement issue is just one step in the fight.  People need to see the full story rather than just bits and pieces media throw out. But majority of people are anti Jews and are blind to truth.  Before condemning Israel or Palestinians do your proper research. That's all I will say. Research

New Zealanders are no strangers to settlements—or to the cavalier denial of the rights of an indigenous people in their historic homeland.

So are the Israelis now accepting that *their* settlements represent cavalier denial of the rights of an indigenous people in their historic homeland?

Or are they claiming to be indigenous?

The whole thing reeks of deliberate ignorance of the NZ situation, and totally ignores the Treaty settlement process that's been happening in NZ for decades now.

Actually, I think the majority of people are anti-Israeli and perceptive of the truth. This isn't a religious issue, so introducing the Jewish religion into the debate is just a convenient way to label opponents.

The truth is that Israel has treated the local Palestinian population badly  for decades, stealing their land by force of arms, and reducing them to poverty and exploiting them as a cheap labour resource to benefit the Israeli economy.

I don't know the answer to this conflict. Don't think there is one. I can see points from both sides. Both sides behave badly. Both sides can give all kinds of reasons why.

Someone had to invoke Godwin's, so an account is in the cooler for a week and this thread is locked.
